Tell us your impressions when the time comes. The good thing with the absence of subscription fee is you don't feel 'compelled' to play. With SWTOR a few months ago, I was playing every day even though I actually didn't enjoy the game that much, because I was paying for it. An extremely dumb thing to do, now that I think of it.

The major drawback being, of course, the annoying kids.

Torchlight.

Oh right, now I remember. Hack & slash RPGs are boringly repetitive.

Yep, lol. Nothing has happened in that genre since Diablo 2.

Clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick -healing potion- clickclickclickclickclick... ALRIGHT I GET IT.

Meanwhile, Lunar Software has announced Routine today, their first game. It's a survival horror game, FPS view. You're in a space colony on the Moon, and you must survive... but the thing is, there's no health bar, no reload possibility, no nothing. If you die, it's game over. Physics are also said to be extra-realistic.
Could be the surprise of the year 2013 (or it could be crap). Either way, it's good to see a hardcore game in this ocean of casual titles.

This is interesting:

http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/sci-t ... g-it-women

Can recognise a good deal of that as true. Ignoring the female part for the moment (hey, the gf's away, I'm allowed to slob out) I was interested to realise that I'm getting quite bored with MW3, simply because of how twitchy you have to be to be especially good online against all these drug-fuelled kids who play it all day long (probably) and who have the reaction times of freaks. It's still fun, especially if I have music on too - relistened to Akercocke's last two albums last night and had a blast. But the single-player game wasn't especially a challenge on Hardened if you were patient and took it slowly, and as a gaming challenge I want more. Might have another crack at Ninja Gaiden 2, which had me nearly crying with frustration last time I tried it, and Fallout 3, which I haven't played in a while.

I'm looking forward to trying Dark Souls on PC. I haven't played it, but I've heard good things about it, and not only concerning the difficulty :P

@EdgeofForever: ditto. Prepare to die :dio:

@TTD: 120 hours, somewhere below half the main quest. I'm going to grab Dawnguard and launch another game (haven't touched Skyrim since around Christmas). And I have yet to see what the HD textures mod (PC) looks like. Beautiful, I imagine.
I'm going to launch a new character as I said, a female middle-aged dark-elf probably, master of sneaking, archery, illusion (and/or conjuration if too hard), alchemy. And vampire, most probably. Short blades for melee combat, though I want to avoid melee as much as possible (I don't know if it's possible to avoid melee completely in this game, I have never tried yet).

No sword, no shield, no destruction, no smithing. I'd like to avoid conjuration, but somehow I think I won't be able to...

I don't think I could ever start a new game.

I have a full time job, and I live with my girlfriend. It's a miracle I've managed to play this much at all. I don't get to do it as much as I'd like, hehe. Plus there will be DLC to play, if there isn't already....(im out of the loop).

I haven't played in a while either. I took a break around 90 hours in and put about 50 hours into Deus Ex Human Revolution (and 100% clocked it with every achievement). When I do find the time for games, I'm very thorough.

Now im back into skyrim. Spent a few hours getting my smithing up to Daedric, now I'm going to play the main quest (I played enough of it to unlock dragons at the beginning, but thats it).

As for the high-res, it's so-so. You'll notice it on the character models, but thats about it.

Same, albeit on xbox. This and the Metal Gear Solid HD collection will be my next buys, I think, although if someone who has played Ninja Gaiden 2 could confirm that Dark Souls is as hard but less frustrating (as seems to be the case...) then that'd be good of them...

@TTD: Not sure I'm going to put 120 hours in my new character, if I do it will be over a year or so. As for DLC, there is already one that I mentioned, Dawnguard. It adds roughly 15 hours of gameplay, they notably have revamped vampirism in it. It's a decent/good enough DLC, but nothing spectacular I'm told.
And as for High-res, I was talking about the unofficial mod, not the official HD texture pack. But maybe you also were?

@Zad: never tried Ninja Gaiden 2, but I've seen/heard of many people rage-quitting Dark Souls because of the difficulty level. You've been warned. :D

Dark Souls is ridiculously fun, but yeah, it's hard. But take it slow and you should be fine. Always have your shield up in combat, learn to roll out of the way when you know you're not strong enough to successfully block an attack, and stay out of range of bigger enemies and bosses until you learn their attacks and attack patterns, and you should be fine. To me, the most frustrating aspect of Dark Souls isn't the combat, but the vagueness of the world itself. There are different factions you can join, but it's not always clear what the benefits and consequences are of joining them. There are items that can't be used at certain times and the game doesn't bother to explain why. The game is open-world and it is never clear which area you are "supposed" to go to next; you can go in any direction after the prologue stage, but there is definitely a proper order to follow unless you want to be greeted with insta-death. All this being said: I fucking love Dark Souls, and it's easily one of my favorite games of the past few years. Set aside a weekend to play it, get used to the game and its mechanics, experiment a bit if you're not sure what to do, have a tab open to gamefaqs.com, and you'll have a great time.

Tell us what you think about Sleeping Dogs when you're far enough in the game. :dio: I'm told it's good, though unoriginal and technically limited.

Is anybody else pumped for Borderlands 2?

Oh and Bruce, NHL 13 demo comes out in a few days. I'll have to cancel all next weeks plans...

I won't play the demo, too much frustration. Speaking of which, you'll get to play the game 3 days before it is release here. I'm counting on you to tell me if it's godlike or only otherworldly.

Confused on how playing demo causes confusion?

I assume he means frustration at not being able to access all the modes and options.

Yes, that's what I meant. Demos are only good to forge your opinion on whether I'm going to buy the product or not. But when I'm already sold, they only make me want more. Especially for this game, since I exclusively play the Be-a-GM and Be-a-Pro modes.

But there's so many new gameplay mechanics. Sure you only get a 5 minute period, but the new goalies, new skating engine, new hits, it's all gonna be there. You honestly never play just a regular game?

Oh well, I'm getting the demo and the game both on their respective days 1s.
