looks almost certain to be a draw, underestimated the ability of South Africa to hang around and we don't look like taking a wicket

Yeah, I'm keeping tabs on the India v England series. The 2nd Test is really well poised! I think it'll be a hell of a finish to that one, it's really competitive at the moment. Much less one-sided than the 2nd test over here, although as an Aussie I'm sure as hell not complaining about that!

Where are you from, Serpent?

I'm from India. The Aus v SA test is actually much better which makes for a more entertaining match. A good fight back by SA. The 2nd test between Ind & Eng is definitely going England's way unless they bat awfully bad or India give an out of this world bowling performance. Both seem unlikely.

Edit : England beat India.

last hour of Aus v RSA we need four wickets to win, a draw is virtually a win for South Africa who are best suited to the WACA pitch and will probably steamroll us there in Perth

COME ON AUSSIES

Yeah, wow, India really fell apart there! I thought they would manage to add a lot more than 25 for the last 3 wickets and set a target they could at least defend. Oh, well, the Series is still level.

As for Aus v SA, the very last session was pretty exciting, but aside from that the last two days were sooooo dull. I really hate to see any test match end in a draw, but after leading by 430 with 2 days to play, it's almost inexcusable. I'm not impressed! With all that said, full credit to Du Plassis, what an amazing performance on debut, he should be very very proud of himself. He's going to make an excellent cricketer.

man of the match for me, to score a ton on debut in the second innings to save the test, for me that's easily better then Clarke's double ton, South Africa will feel like they won this test and I'd say Clarke and the boys will feel like they lost it

plus Hilf and Siddle will be absolutely exhausted, we can't play them in Perth which means the bowling attack will probably be Starc, Hastings, Johnson and Lyon with Watson as the fourth seamer and Warner, Clarke and Quiney bowling a few overs if needed

I'd love to see Hastings get a cap, he deserves it. His first class record is superb.

But I reckon at least one of Hilf or Siddle will be selected. We need their experience. Also I heard they're thinking about going with 4 quicks. They named Hazlewood in the 14-man squad as well, but I don't see him getting selected.

if Watsons fit then three quicks plus Watto is enough, the only reason I see to play four quicks is if Watson isn't fit enough to bowl in which case I don't see him playing

I think Siddle needs the rest but Hifenhaus appears out of form so I don't know that he can be played

It's been a great career, but thank fuck. Time to give a younger batsman a go.

don't believe it mate, fox sports news report indicates the selectors have just backed Ponting until at least the end of the summer

Yeah, I saw that. I do get the feeling they just want to let him go out on his own terms though, y'know, because he's done so much for Australian cricket. Who knows, we'll see I guess.

it seems odd to me that he would choose to retire in Perth though, I think he does need to retire but he doesn't want to so he may not be able to go out on his terms, his repeated failures in this series and the way in which he's getting out are really putting the team in dangerous positions, Clarke and Hussey can't bail us out forever

idealy I'd like him to retire in Hobart, go out at home and score a ton in his last game for Australia but I don't see that happening

I'd say Haddin is close to getting a test recall, Wade doesn't seem to be handling things just yet

Yeah, possibly. Paine might still be in the mix for that position as well.

don't know about T. Paine, I thought Johnson injured him in the shield match in Hobart

saw some highlights of Mitch bowling in that game and some others recently and wow, he's actually getting the ball swinging, and quick, he's a chance to just demolish the South Africans if he does get a call up for Perth

wow, wonder who we'll replace him with, no shortage of good options, Klinger, Cooper, D. Harris, Quiney, Khawaja, Hughes, D. Hussey if they want some experience, White, I could keep going

It could be any one of those guys, but if I had to place a bet, I'd probably say Hughes.

I know he fucked up his opportunity last time, but he's relatively young and he's been scoring heaps of runs in the Shield, and when he got dropped last time it always seemed to me like they wanted him to just get some good form going and they kind of planned to give gim another shot, so I reckon he'd be next in line.

As you said though, could be any number of guys.

I'd like to see Hughes get another chance, and he is in white hot form at the moment, can't keep him out of the runs, and thw WACA suits him, playing off the back foot like Hughes likes to do is much easier on a fast bouncey pitch

think Quiney and Khawaja are and have been a little hard done by though

He won't get a chance at the WACA anyway, Punter's gonna play the third test. Whoever they bring in is gonna come in for the first test against Sri Lanka.

I was thinking more drop Warner for Hughes, ok he made a ton in Adelaide but he isn't a test match player and never will be

Well, looks like you were right. Both Siddle and Hilfenhaus have been left out of the 12 man squad. They must have been completely and utterly fucked for the selectors to make that decision. I'm honestly surprised.

So it looks like we'll get Johnson as the spearhead, with Starc and Lyon guaranteed to get selected as well. After that it will be Hastings or Hazlewood, and to my surprise I've read that Hazlewood is in the box seat.

Fuck I hope we win this. I want that number 1 ranking!
