Fuckin hell Fridge, stop crying, Zad didn't give birth to you.

I'm not crying. Zad is staff, and I think it would be a positive change if the staff here enforced some level of civility. I know it's manly and macho to insult each other and shit, but it's not very productive, is it?

Zad does not have the power to ban Fridge (at this point). Normal mods, as Zad and I are, can only lock threads, delete posts, etc.

I have no problem enforcing civility, but its not a simple thing. We have a lot of people here who are joking around when they call names and the like. I would say the best way is if you've had enough of someone picking on you, publicly ask them nicely to stop. If it continues, then we'll do something about it.

I publicly ask people to stop being so sensitive. This is a METAL forum.

It's hard not to be sensitive when you guys are so mean. It makes my day really hard.

Joking is easy to detect (usually), and otherwise a quick pm to the receiving party involved to determine whether offense was taken or not should fix the matter.

OK, but that's not always true. Honestly, its hard for me to sympathize because people hurling insults at me on a forum has no lasting effect on me. Sure, it might get me riled up at the time, but in the long run I could care less.

EI's comment to you was harsh, but so was your generalizing of the entire American population, myself included, in your post leading to his rebuttal. It wasn't exactly like he attacked you unprovoked.

The modding here is quite tolerant, mainly because compared to most places this is a relatively respectful and civil board.

No, mods shouldn't be acting as playground supervisors. If you feel someone has insulted you, then stand up for yourself, or don't talk nonsense in the first place. If anything seriously unpleasant and unfair is going on, mods will step in. Or PM one of us if you feel very strongly about something.

Very rarely, threads get locked because they take a nosedive into stupidity that makes their continued existence worthless, as with the Lady GaGa thread. Personally, I won't lock any threads in Helheim except for a serious emergency, but it's not worth crying about if someone does.

I know, and reprimands were in order for both of us. However, some people (like me) value this site heavily, and enjoy the community. A small increase in staff reinforcing civil standards would make the whole thing a lot more enjoyable for everyone.

Agreed. This is a metal site. You don't slay any dragons or impale any Nazarenes by being civil.

Sure, whatever. Obviously my opinion is the exception, so I'll shut up. I was just raising a point.

It's a fair enough point, but ultimately policing civility and niceness would probably sanitise a lot of the discussion. Personally I don't mind if someone wants to go after me hard, because I am also more than happy to send it back to them.

Thank you, for once again being the voice of reason. I fully second every word in that post.

I usally kill my enemies with my broad sword in a very gentle and polite way.

Excuse me, merry barbarian... can I chop your arms and head with this battleaxe and throw your guts out to the dogs in order to steal your money and make love to your lovely woman?

That's the way a metal forum should go!

En garde!

I like how it's only the voice of reason when it's rio talking, even though he's saying the same thing as I was.

Aww, don't feel slighted, I was only pointing out what rio said because we both know none of these goons will listen to you.
