when I saw them live they weren't THAT bad... in fact they were even okay. The only thing was that their bassist occasionally just stopped playing for no reason. The rest of them seemed sober enough.

I've only ever heard stories of conflicting extremes. It seems that either they play perfectly, or they absolutely fuck everything up.

But yeah, there's some serious out of rhythm shit going on there. It's like they're ignoring the drummer entirely.

Annoys me, actually, a prime example of liberal vagina-ness. There was a Guardian article today

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... on-atheism

where someone was crowing about it. Let me quote:

Quote:
From today's launch, two hundred of the buses will run in London, because the campaign was originally started as a positive counter-response to the Jesus Said ads running on London buses in June 2008. These ads displayed the URL of a website which stated that non-Christians "will be condemned to everlasting separation from God and then you spend all eternity in torment in hell … Jesus spoke about this as a lake of fire prepared for the devil". Our rational slogan will hopefully reassure anyone who has been scared by this kind of evangelism.

Fuck off! Anyone that believes what they read on the side of a bus and gets scared deserves such shit, and I'm speaking as a victim of religion myself. My atheism is special to me, it's personal; it's a position of revolt against family, friends, and mindless bigoted idiots that try and impose their worldview on me. I don't need some twat buying bus adverts to make me feel special. There's not some religious war going on in England; we by and large have nothing but disdain for the church, and treat the few Christians around as they act themselves.

Of course, it'd be a different story if this was Dallas, or a country where the Church was halfway respected. THEN, for free speech-related lollage, this would be good. Otherwise, I pronounce it lame.

The atheist busses piss me off too. They exist for no reason, except to "shock" people and cause controversy. People should quit inciting shit like this.

I would love something like that here

I was talking politics with a typical, southern, pasty-white Christian guy I know a few days ago. We were discussing Revered Wright and Barack Obama's religon and a bunch of other bullshit (naturally, this guy is a douchebag when it comes to politics). I asked him if he thought an Atheist would ever be elected president, and he predictably said no. When I asked why, the reason he gave was that "We Americans like our presidents to have morals, and Christianity is the best measure of that". Fuckin' pissed me off. Not just because he insinuated that those of different beliefs are morally deficient and therefore inferior in some way, but because his comment shows that he believes ME to be immoral in comparison to himself. I guess that's what religion does though... it gives people the illusion that they're "special" and "loved" because they buy into a load of unbelievable bullshit, and that's why the morons flock to it (no offense to anyone on the boards that may be religious... I've met a few semi-rational Christians whose beliefs are a personal matter and who honestly try to just be good people. Those guys a okay). Naturally I informed this guy that he's living a delusion and showed him why Christianity is NOT actually a good measure of morality (like... you know all those times in the Old Testament where God orders the Israelites to kill in cold blood, rape women, and slaughter children...). It wasn't enough though. It never is. Living here tires me out severely. That's why when I graduate I'm getting the fuck out of the south...

Hey, I've only just noticed that we have a Texan among us. I was looking at a book on Texas yesterday, thinking 'nice place to visit, but...' Are they really as cowboy-obsessed as stereotype would have it, Katzy?

Austin and some of the other bigger towns there are suposedly hotbeds of liberalism, from what I've heard.

Yeah, the atheist buses are kind of lame. I am pretty much as non-believing as they come, but......... lame. Just makes atheists look as preachy as the god botherers.

The bigger cities, like Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin, are all pretty well balanced. With the exception of Austin (the best city in Texas), they all have an overall conservative bias, but it's not overwhelming by any means. And there are certainly very few "cowboys" as per the stereotype. However, once you get outside of the big cities, it's pretty much a hellhole. But even still maybe like 3 or 4 percent of Texans actually own horses? It's not quite like it's made out to be. I mean a good 75-80% of the population lives in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, or Austin...

oh and sorry if my rant offended... I was just pissed.

Yeah, I did mean cowboys specifically rather than Xtians or Neocons, sorry to be unclear, though it's amusing that that's how people think of them. I must say, the idea of gun-toting hot chicks with Southern accent is one I've always liked, although it's probably nothing like that at all.

Southern accents are disgusting. Thank god most people don't actually have them...

Easy for you to say. You haven't lived in the South.

South... of England?

Ok, fine. Still think they're hot on the right woman, though.

I'm sure there are some notable exceptions that are escaping me at the moment, but living around that accent pretty much kills it.

I go to college in Detroit, and I've had to deal with similar scenarios. Homeless people walking up to me and asking, "Hey man, have you given your soul to Jesus yet?", people passing out pamphlets full of legalistic propaganda, etc. I've learned to just smile and walk away when confronted by them.

Skeetkatz, I saw that you're planning to go to schools like Vanderbilt and USC. I hope that goes well for you (I myself almost went to Vanderbilt - and I think one of our former Metalreviews staff members, Dylan, goes there).
