It really was.

And in terms of episodes the decision on how to resolve the Stringer/Barksdale situation was brilliant. Episode 11 was so good even the Emmys couldn't ignore it.

+1 to the 'fuck' scene.

I thought that resolution was a little quick in how it played out over an episode and a half, but I did like it.

Definitely a unique show that I kinda am really loving. I don't want to give off the wrong impression. I just think that rather than it being unquestionably the best show ever, it is simply one amongst many. I like it for all the things you describe and it truly is the best procedural ever.

Well, nothing should go unquestioned, agreed there. But I'm pretty certain the show should be in the conversation.

Curious for your opinion at the end.

If you had watched it before all the hype, you would've thought it was the best show ever.

Meh, I started watching it while Season 5 was still on the air where it was all the talk at the time and it's easily in my top 5 shows of all time. Hype or no hype it absolutely deserves all the praise it gets.

Speaking of hype, there has been so much hype around season 3 of Game of Thrones that I was convinced it started this Sunday instead of next Sunday.

Anyone familiar with the books knows they have some heavy stuff to get through this year: here is hoping they do it right.

I'm only about 300 pages into the 3rd book, but from what I've read so far I can't wait for things to get going.

Walking Dead is boring. Game of Thrones is 10x better.

Idk about 10x, but I do think it is worth pointing out that it is an overlapping demographic I imagine and the one being a season debut and the other a finale just seems like the wrong way of getting ratings.

Oh, and everything I said about The Wire as not being emotionally compelling, I was wrong. Season 4 is breaking my heart.

If its not 10x better, it's at least a 9 or a solid 8.5.

5?

The downfall of GoT's myriad of storylines is that if I only care about half of them, I only end up enjoying a half of the episode and the other half is simply fact banking so that I know what's going on still. Definitely like an epic novel in that regards.

The Walking Dead is an awful show. i know i watch it but it's a case study in that sense, half the people who follow it hate it.

I love to call it the most mediocre show that I always tune into. And that's really a testament to how awesome Norman Reedus' portrayal of Daryl Dixon is. I think I've let go of hope that it will ever become something better, but I enjoy it purely in the consumptive sense. Up until I watch it, I really want to watch it, and even whilst watching it I'm enjoying the process; after the act, though, I want nothing to do with it.

I never carried on with WD after the first season. Possibly a silly question, given some of the reactions here, but should I?

Nah, not really. I feel like if you're itching for something to watch there are some other things I'd suggest over it.

Have I mentioned Black Mirror!? Do you Brits watch that show? It's fucking crazy awesome. That pilot was fucking crazy intense. It's like Twilight Zone amped up on techno-paranoia steroids. The pilot was a thought experiment jacked up: terrorists kidnap a princess and demand that British PM fucks a pig on live camera. It goes through every possible dilemma, how people would respond, how individuals would react, how they would try to stop it, all the while looking at how television, media polls, youtube would influence the situation.

Spoilers: the moment which blew my mind was the viagra pill. Yeah that happens.

I would recommend it to you, Zad. And ebd for that matter.

it's easy to follow and the action bits are quite enjoyable, and i take it you're already mildly curious as to how the group will end up.

if you want to start again skip to season 3 and just read up for season 2, maybe watch the last episode or two.

It's only thirteen episodes just watch the second season. That's where you grow to love Glenn and Maggie and albeit not a great use of time, it helps in knowing who folks are. Character development has always been solid on the show even if they're unlikeable characters sometimes.

Fair enough re WD.

I saw that season of Black Mirror, there's a new one out over here recently I haven't seen yet. Quite good, although I did feel the PM-fucking-a-pig episode was based entirely around that, like it was an idea the writer had that he followed up on out of sheer shock value. The writer, Charlie Brooker, has written a fair bit of TV stuff and I wouldn't say Black Mirror was his best stuff, although it's obviously pretty original and distinct! Will watch the newer episodes at some point and post thoughts.

That's your problem. Read the books to get the full aspect of what is going on. But you won't cause you're too good for that kind of thing.

At least you an care about characters in GoT, Walking Dead you don't give 2 shits about anybody because nothing ever happens.
