Seriously, evidence of these radical politicians trying to force leftism down our throats? Multiculturalism is democracy's way of brushing over racism with some bullshit "everyone is accepted just ignore all the inequality" lies.

Equating a fairy tale of multiculturalism to not supporting laws which violate human rights, are idiotic and were proposed entirely due to racism and Islamiphobia= not so much

How does that edict violate human rights? The Swiss muslims are still able to practice their religion, as only minarets are banned, not mosques.

I've no idea what they thought they'd achieve by it. If there is genuinely a worry about listed buildings etc then singling minnarets out is a little - it is clearly the most serious thing they thought they could get away with. Reminds me of the times way back when Jews couldn't build synagogues higher than mosques and churches in the respective countries - it might not be the worst thing under the sun, but it's definitely a sign of bigotry and should raise the eyebrows of all honest folk.

To be honest, I'll be disappointed if the radical groups don't kick off about it - this is far more serious than a few cartoons.

I'm pretty sure the main motivation was a desire to preserve Swiss culture. The idea of minarets infringing on the panorama is understandably irritating, although I don't care about "Swiss culture".

How does a few (four at the moment, no?) pointy towers infringe on Swiss culture if, say, Jewish stars don't? What is Swiss culture - cuckoo clocks, chocolate, and Celtic Frost? Haven't they got enough Nazi gold to hide away from the grasping hands of holocaust survivors or something?

It's not a bad thing :S Most of Switzerland's economic forces (albeit not the banks) are run, or were founded, or initially funded by Jews. Manor, for one. It doesn't matter that they were Jews, my point was simply that Jews are a part of Switzerland's culture.

Do you have any actual proof for this? Listing some people with German names is not proof.

Not at the moment, but I learned it in my history class, that's all I can say. Swiss people are respectful of Judaism, and embrace them as part of our economic basis as well as part of our culture.

So that's why they wouldn't give those holocaust survivors that money. I see.

Oh, yeah. Not our proudest moment, admittedly. I think the general trend post WWII has been one of assimilation and trying to make amends. I've never met an anti-Semitic Swiss, never seen anti-Semitism in politics, never seen it in the media, never seen it in entertainment. Definitely the impression of the Jewish role in Swiss history that I got from public school was a favourable one.
