Zad, Dee is like that. If you can't joke about something, you may as well not talk about it.
Besides, if you're so busy grieving for all the horrific things that happen every day in this terrible, terrible world, then where's the all-purpose Sudan thread in which you tell us about how many men were killed, how many women were raped and AIDS-infected, and how many children were mutilated each day? Fuck, where's the all-purpose Africa thread in which we all communally lament the human rights situation there?
Where's the thread where we screech our screams of emotion about the starving people in North Korea? Or the thread in which we weep in relative silence for the slave prostitutes (age 9) in India?
Let Dee joke. It's how some people deal with the knowledge that today, a whole bunch of men and people just like them died agonizing deaths, and that tomorrow, another bunch will die like the ones today.
There are worse tragedies in the world to joke about then the death of a bunch of coal miners.
My point was : He thinks that the situation was funny in an ironic sense, and then couldn't answer sensibly when I pointed out the same thing happening to him would not get the same response. Joking about tragedies is not mature by any stretch of the word, and you'd expect a reviewer to be at least
that mature.
"Where are the other threads?" You don't really want me to start threads about every human being that dies, do you? This was in the news, it struck me as being worthy of note. Just because people die all the time doesn't make it any better.
