Neither, and never owned a console; pc gamer from the start. I did have a couple of friends with a SNES though, and I played some games with those kids frequently. Double Dragon is the only one I remember now, though. No one I know of owned a Genesis.

SNES. Super Mario World can't be topped. Ever. My friend and I beat all 96 levels in just a few hours.

Sega! Sega! Sega! I know Sonic 2 like I know no other game. I loved that system.

Though to be fair, SNES did have more and better games (Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario World, Final Fantasies, Star Wars games). I just got to play those at my friend's house and through roms 10 years later instead.

I actually owned the Sega CD add on, got it the year it came out. I know the main selling feature of the Sega CD were those live film type games (Sewer Shark anyone?)

Haha, a friend of mine got the addon when it came out as well and we played the hell out of Sewer Shark, awesome times.

Genesis for me was the best, sure SNES had better colours and sound but Sega had the better games. For me classic Sonic has always been better than Mario, especially Sonic 2, that game is pure bliss. Some other classics include: Beyond Oasis, Light Crusaders, Shinobi, Labyrinth, Shining Force Series, Phantasy Star series, Shadow Run, Syndicate, Bubsy, Sol-Deace, Vectorman 1 and 2, Golden Axe, Ecco The Dolphin, Streets of Rage, Boogerman, The Lost Vikings... I could go on and on, Iknow all of those weren't exclusive, but ive noticed a difference in difficulty level on games shared by both systems, most of all, Zombies Ate My Neighbours, hard as shit on the Genesis, I can get pretty far but on SNES I always did 10 times better and I prefer more of a challenge.

Also, Chrono Trigger is almost as overrated as Final Fantasy VII.

Snes, no one i knew back then owned a Sega.

My console history is:

Atari - Itellivision - NES - Phillips Cdi - SNES - Playstation - Playstation 2 - Playstation 3.

SNES was a fantastic system, i believe that the SEGA was actually a more powerful machine than the SNES (bigger sprites, colours, etc), but the library of the SNES was IMO way better.

Sonic 2 pissed me off with that stupid chemical rising level. Fuck that game from then on. I wasted too many hours to get past it just to have one life left for the Roman level.

wat? Chemical Plant Zone was easy. If you thought that was hard, just be glad you never got to Metropolis Zone.

For me, Sonic 1 was the best of the Sonic games. Sonic 2 just had too many cheap deaths to be as enjoyable.

Should be interesting to see how Sonic 4 turns out.

A lot of my family members / friends owned an SNES, so I suppose that counts. I wasted many, many hours on Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, Super Mario World, etc. before I was even 5.

Actually, the SNES was arguably more powerful than the Genesis. It had a larger color palette (32768 compared to the Genesis' 512), could display more colors on screen at once (256 compared to the Genesis' 64), had better sound, had more internal memory, etc.

The Genesis DID, however, have one significant technological advantage over the SNES: A faster processor, which made more suitable for sports games (hence the fact that EA Sports's games were often better on the Genesis than on the SNES). In fact, a lot of early SNES games were notorious for slowdown problems, which is probably why Sega started that Blast Processing gimmick around mid-late 1993 (see the commercial I posted in the OP).

CT is good 8/10, though it got really boring near the end for me and FFVII IMO is ok at best 6/10 probably. Secret of Mana and Earthbound are my 2 favorite SNES rpgs.
