Awesome, I now know that I drink coffee because it is cool!

So why do you guys all smoke weed? Because it increases productivity?

He has a point though, on the almost compulsory role of coffee in our modern societies. I've worked in a place where people worked 60+ hours a week, and coffee was not only an absolute no-brainer, but you were mocked if you - like me - didn't drink a drop of it. And everywhere I go, it's the same crap. From 6 to 15 cups of coffee per day, sometimes even more. It's the norm. And it's insane.

If you regularly drink coffee, you start needing it not because it wakes you up, but because you've gotten used to being "normal" with it. Without it, you're in a worse state than if you just woke up without drinking coffee if you're not a habitual drinker.

I'm a complete addict. I even need it to get my colon started in the morning. That and a fag.

Yeah, I don't drink either coffee or tea at all and people get weirded out by it. :P

Leaving home again after just over a week is making me sad. But I'll get to see my girlfriend and make money. Still would like to stay here longer though :-(

I occasionally drink it, but 6+ cups per day? Yeah, that's insane.

My boss was drinking coffee, basically all day. One day she had issues with her back, she went and saw a physio. The day after, she asked me "She told me that I was stressed. Seriously. What, do you think I'm stressed?"
I couldn't tell her she was the human embodiment of stress, and the very definition of the concept itself. They had to change her keyboard twice because she was always hammering it.

i didn't start drinking coffee when my friends did (around high school) because it tasted like shit. then in college during my first holiday sharing a place with my friends i noticed how they were all in a terrible mood before their first coffee, and i was sure i didn't want to get addicted like them.

i only feel sleepy if i am doing something very boring, so i know i don't need it.

as for energy drinks, i only had them twice, first time it was red bull and it did nothing for me, the second it was Burn after a night of hard drinking and less than 3 hours of sleep and it worked like a charm. i keep hearing horrible things about them, though, so i try to keep consumption to a minimum. this to answer EdgeOfForever.

I just find it hilarious that of all the questionable things certain members on the forum do, it is drinking coffee that is singled out. I drink 2ish cups a day, and have since I started grad school. And I love the taste.

Fuck you all.

I drink tea, and because it is the magic drink of the gods am a superhuman because of it. Don't like coffee. Only alcohol I have these days is wine, with the very occasional special whisky or brandy. Energy drinks are to be kept solely for when you've been up for days without sleep, and that never happens to me.

Having to move soon, but found a nice houseshare that will save me a loadsa money and enable me to ditch some furniture I've been dragging round pointlessly. Winwinwin.

We need a clichés thread, by the way.

i eat a lot of spicy food

EBD, it's fine. one can get drunk often, or smoke up, but i'm not an unpleasant person if i don't do either (which is to say, i am not addicted to alcohol or hash or whatever). of course, i'd rather have caffeine fiends for friends instead of alcoholic friends.

I'm nearly done with a bottle of famous grouse and I'm still too sober to do the dishes.

That's interesting. I like to smoke weed but I don't get along with most smokers, mostly because they're mediocre unemployed rasta communist people with bad haircuts.

Not sure when I will stop smiling at such a great comment.

And yeah, Azrael, I wasn't really taking offense at the discussion, just amused.
