Finally watched a few movies that I've been wanting to see:

Cabin In The Woods: Brilliant but what else would you expect from Joss Whedon?

Prometheus: I was severely disappointed and now await notice that the movie studio is calling James Cameron again.

Man of Steel: I liked it a lot. I have two complaints, I thought they spent too much time on Krypton at the beginning and the action is so visually intense when Supes is fighting the World Creator thing I thought I was going to have a seizure. Thankfully it only gave me a headache :)

A Field In England - low-budget English Civil War occult drama on magic mushrooms. Bit like an Electric Wizard music video.

El Topol - insane Mexican western from 1970. Beyond description.

Stand-Up Guys - Pacino and Walken, being old and acting well in a script far, far below them.

This weekend's viewings:
Romeo + Juliet (the Baz Luhrmann version) - Holy hell, this thing is so over-the-top in the worst possible way. Poor acting as well, you can tell that half of the actors have no idea what their lines are actually supposed to mean. Turned it off after the first 15 minutes, does it get better later on?
Despicable Me 2 - Not as good as the first but still really cute and funny. Kristen Wiig as Agent Wilde was a lot of fun and the minions steal the show as always.
Hanna - Oh my god this movie fucking rocks. Beautiful cinematography and Herzog-esque scenery chewing with fantastic acting (sans Eric Bana) and well-filmed action scenes. Loved it.

Luhrmann strikes me a hack, I think that R&J is the only one of his I saw though; I didn't get very far through it either.

Re: Hanna, hmm I might check it out since you evoked Herzog.

Hanna's an excellent flick and an interesting take on the spy-thriller.

Saw Man of Steel in 3D today. Must admit it was freaking awesome!!
Also saw a 2004 German movie called Downfall a few days ago. Damn, what an incredible movie. The most realistic portrayal of Hitler's last few days on film.

I had been waiting for nearly two years for Pacific Rim to be released and finally was able to see it at the Thursday night premiere at my local Imax. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more. I've been a huge fan of giant monsters / robots ever since I was a kid and watching this film was a tremendous pleasure. The fight scenes were so intense that more than once I caught myself not breathing out of fear. I can't remember the last time a film had that effect on me.

Unfortunately based on current numbers this movie is going to open behind MOTHERFUCKING GROWN UPS 2 in the U.S. I cannot overstate how livid I am that Adam Sandler's latest heap of shit is going to take the number one spot. The fact that people are turning out in droves for some cheap toddler toilet humor because they recognize the actors and because they find fart / piss / poop / puke / boob / dick / gay jokes to be the pinnacle of comedy has made me more depressed over the state of cinema than... well, anything. Ever. I can't believe that you can slap recognizable faces of terrible "comedians" on a poster and make millions of dollars and beat out a goddamn Guillermo del Toro film in the process. I literally do not want to share this planet with anyone who pays money to view such garbage.

I am going to bed now. God fucking dammit.

In my unwanted opinion, Pacific Rim looks just as stupid as Grown Ups 2. I'd rather gouge my eyes and ears out before watching either.

Yeah, neither really sound like my thing. The World's End, however...

I'm trying not to expect too much, love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and not sure that it'll be up to them. It's quite possible, though... *fingers crossed*

That's how I live my life. Constantly expect the worst and if it turns out to not be that bad, then it's a pleasant surprise.

Well I saw it, and it was great.

Went to see Now You See Me today. Fairly light and forgettable, but the magic stuff was fun, and the twist was decent.

Saw the reboot Star Trek 2: whatever the fuck it's called. Total load of shit. Predicted all the moves twenty minutes prior to it happening.

really? i felt the twist was just short of 'it was all a dream'. way too far fetched and the police really was unbelievably incompetent.

Heh, considering I was expecting the twist to be that they were all actually wizards it wasn't bad.

Pretty inoffensive, but enjoyable for what it was.

Kick Ass 2 - nowhere near as good as the first but a fun cinema trip.
Sinister - quite creepy horror. The director was influenced by corpsepaint, apparently.
