I just never really got into the movie, it didn't really capture my attention and draw me in so I just got bored

after watching the two UFC dvds I didn't know I had I'm now watching a truly classic movie

Monty Python's Holy Grail, being Aussie I really don't like to give the English credit for anything but those Brits really struck comedy GOLD with the Python lads

to get through that movie you may need to be that drunk, seriously it is by and large a dreadful movie

Gonna have to agree with Snake on this one.

Dunno if it's the alcohol talking, i've had about half a bottle of gin, but fuck me, I thought it was awesome.

For a "superpowers" movie that wasn't based on a comic, it totally blew me away. It featured just about the best character study of a supervillian I've ever seen in a movie, and that includes The Dark Knight. Where most movies of this sort focus on the hero to a large extent, this one really focused on the villian, and it made him so believable, while his actions may not have seemed completely justified in their extremity, you at least understood where he was coming from. Really good shit.

EDIT: Oh, and it had a TOTAL akira thing going on, which I've never seen in a live-action film and was fucking amazing. In fact, I'm not even sure how anyone wouldn't think that was awesome.

Yeah, so I'm just gonna go ahead and quote myself here, don't mind me, it's all sweet.

So yeah, speaking of being drunk and the dark knight, I'm drunk and i'm going to watch the dark knight. Wut wut.
Cool man. I'm glad you liked it and I'm glad you done fucked up some gin.

How the fuck do YOU watch it?

I watch it generally with a glass of or three of vodka and some pretzels, like I do most movies... or were you just trying to be cute?

If you have something to say, say it.

I think he just meant that that would be a movie you'd watch. As in it's not surprising you enjoy it. As in you're old.

Sorry. Bar said it, not me.

Yeah, I meant that's a movie he would watch.

Not because he's old, though. Because he's right wing.

Y'know. Shoot first, ask questions later. Dirty Harry is a right wing icon like that. I love him and all his movies though, so genuinely no offence intended at all.

Dirty Harry is the man. Clint Eastwood is also the man.

I love 24 despite being against torture and Napalm Death despite not being a socialist. Dirty Harry is just a classic!

Never mind, I was in a shitty mood last night. Mea culpa.

haha, I am old and all the comments are pretty accurate, but...

I never really saw it as merely a right-wing, shoot first ask questions later statement, although that is obviously one aspect of the movies overall theme. If you juxtapose that with the blatantly left-wing, anything goes backdrop of San Fransisco in that particular era, it is definitely highlighted in stark contrast.

The thing that I take from the movie is the problem of how to deal with a psychopath, his rights vs. the rights of an innocent victim (the 14 year old girl buried alive), vigilantism (to a lesser extent), and by extension, a critique of our judicial system. And then there's the portrayal of the general decay of mores in our urban areas.

It's a great movie and enjoyable on multiple levels.

Being in the World - Documentary sort of about Heidegger but also about we should do things and make things because technology is taking that away from us and that's bad. Bad technology, stop stealing our humanity! It wasn't bad but it kind of skipped over the philosophically dense material (aka the stuff I care about) in favour of local handmade propaganda and flamenco music. So even though I agree with local handmade propaganda (to an extent) and I love flamenco music I felt like it was skipping the important stuff in favour of interpreting Heidegger's philosophy as supporting the latest trendy zeitgeist. Then again I dunno much about Hdggr so maybe he does support the latest trendy zeitgeist.

The Watch - 6/10. Some laughs. Guess I expected more.
The Dark Knight Rises - 9/10. Brilliant
Total Recall - 8/10. Great action sequences.

Completely agreed with everything you said, particularly with regards to the portrsyal of decay in society. I dont consider myself right wing in the slightest, but I own the 5 movie Dirty Harry box set. I love them, even as they get progressively sillier, theyre always good fun. I never meant to imply that's all there is to it. I was just having a laugh based on an old stereotype.
