That's why it's time to do covers with GP tracks.

(Shuffles around and ends up recording one for about a half an hour)

Obviously I just did one take per voice that needed to be there and it sounds mediocre as a result.

Anybody else amused by the use of inverted commas in the thread name?

Addy's "singing" thread.

Where we talk about Addy's "singing".

Goat said to make a "singing" thread so the title refers to that, plus it was funny too. I didn't let the chance to tell a joke in the title go to waste. I think someone else might have done that first, probably DW.

I know what your saying though because the technique I used even a month ago was wrong even though it sounded pretty similar, it wasn't quite where it needed to be. I spent so many years singing an actave too high that I tried to get rid of any nasal resonance and I learned this week that your voice starts with the nasal resonance in a way and it's not something that can be omitted from your technique at all, unless you are doing death metal.

Been there, done that. Wrote some songs a few years ago with Guitar Pro to see if I could do it and I can. I play guitar fairly well and would probably be better at Bass though. I mastered Death metal singing before I was 20. It's in the toolbox along with every other forms of singing you can think of. Power Metal is the hardest since it requires the technique of an opera singer but does not include the limited set of notes that are written for classical music. People have no idea how difficult singing like that is when everything is written chromatically. I seriously doubt even a great opera singer would be able to handle the melodic minor scale with any amount of speed that metal uses.

I must not have put the Iced Earth track up yet. It's not that great, but it's there. I haven't sung like that regularly in years, so those types of vocals are probably nowhere close to being as good as they could be.

There's still some stinkers up there, that's how it works, you record some more and keep getting rid of the worst until eventually you can't find stuff that needs to be deleted.

Hey Addy, I just listened to your vocal cover of Burnt Offerings. I still think your clean vocals have got a way to go, but I have to say your harsh vocals aren't too bad all.

Maybe you should do some more harsh stuff.

Now that you mention it. My problem for years has been that I try to sing clean stuff like Death Metal stuff with all the distortion cut out. That doesn't work out too good because you have to send the air to your nose which forces the air back down and stabilizes & warms the notes and activates the false folds, which are used in all styles of singing. For some reason I was under the impression that air getting into your nasal passages was going to sound nasal. Sounding nasal is the result of there not being enough air hitting the roof of your mouth and the air getting trapped and doesn't circulate back down into the vocal folds/false folds.

The false folds are inverted so when air goes downwards, they are activated.

It seems silly to me now that I was trying to sing in falsetto using my regular vocal folds, which is not impossible, but requires one to open (from side to side) their larynx so wide that there is no focus to the notes. In other words no one does it that way and maybe no one else has figured that out yet either, who knows.

Hey, I wanted to ask you, did you notice that I did the high female background vocals, not that they were anything special, just wondering if they blended in well enough not to be noticed. Thanks, if you get this.

I wish my Barlow impression was better, but I really have only sung along to this song. I hope everyone that wanted to hear it heard it because I'm deleting it. It was pretty awful. Even the harsh stuff was not fun to hear again.

As per these requests/interest I'm gonna work some harsher stuff in, which I sorely need to get back to working on anyway. I had all that crap figured out when I was 20, so it's no big deal.
