:O, talk about a grower. at first I hated it but having people say it's their Album of the Year and tell me to listen to it more I gave it some more chances and wow... it's growing on me. It sort of reminds me of Devin Townsend playing metalcore or something. Really crazy, ambitious and just overall cool stuff. Now if only they hadn't decided to throw in those 2-3 Mr Bungle homages >_< |

Wow...listened to "White Walls" on their MySpace and honestly, I was blown away. Sounds like Lamb of God and Dream Theater getting together and doing a side project...there are hardly any traces of metalcore in this whatsoever, at least that I could hear. The music was 90% progressive metal with a slight tinge of heaviness that, to me, is the only trace of metalcore to be found. The vocalist reminds me a lot of Randy Blythe, whence the Lamb of God comparison, and I love his vocals so this works out well... Needless to say, will be getting this ASAP. EDIT: Oh yeah, on their MySpace, they compare this new CD to King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Tool, and Mastodon...fitting comparisons, I think. |

Well, there's a lot of metalcore on the album, but I really don't think it's a bad thing. They do the clean/harsh contrast perfectly (or at least much better than on Alaska). They don't fall into the melodeath/metalcore pitfall of using it predictably as the chorus to every song, nor the Opeth pitfall of being a tad boring when they're not doing it... it reminded me a lot of Dream Theater too which kind of turned me away at first ![]() the last 20 minutes of the album are ridiculous (it's supposed to be one long song). I need to check out their earlier stuff. |

This album definetely flows a lot better than the other ones, but their harsh vocals still don't do it for me. |

Haha, I don't know what I was thinking yesterday...before I even read your post, I went back and listened to the songs again and I realized that there is indeed a lot of metalcore on the CD. But, I still stick to my belief that this is as much progressive metal as it is metalcore. And plus, the clean vocals aren't emo which really makes the harsh/clean contrast like 500 times better for metalcore. |

Just listened to it, this album is da bomb and a newborn classic of progressive metal in a metalcore costume. Beats the living shit out of the latest Dream Theater. |

It was indeed a grower. Best BTBAM album by far. |

I heard a little bit of a track and wasn't too impressed. It just sounded like mathy noodling for mathy noodling's sake. :\ But then again, I only heard a bit of one track and was pissed off at mathy noodling. I might try to listen to a track on their MySpace or something. brb np: Mordecai, cuz I haven't heard that song in forever. And dammit, I really like it. Dude, fuck it, I don't care, I'm gonna get Colors so hard. |

Extreme lolz @ mini-saloon-country-breakdown-thing at end of the song... I dunno, I can see why people would think that this album is just too much, but I give BTBAM props for not being afraid to do whatever they want... And also, I love the noodling because 1. I like Dream Theater... and 2. it's actually interesting and not just a really long solo. Actually, there is hardly any soloing on this cD... |

It sounded interesting, judging from the samples I heard. Yet at the same time, it felt like I've heard it all before. |

It's a good 'un alright. The only fault with it is that the singer doesn't shut up the whole way through! I want to hear more of their crazy noodling without him screaming all over it. |

My only complaint about the album is that the production is too loud and doesn't have much volume dynamic, theres a lot of times where you practically can't hear the rhythm guitar >.< |

I like the production. It is loud, but it makes it that much more intense. |
