I liked Baroness's EP and split material more than their actual album (which was pretty good but less sludgy/sloppy than their earlier stuff).

Right now I've been obsessed with Mike Scheidt's two bands YOB and Middian, the french band Year of No Light, and the Seattle band Akimbo, who are basically fast paced sludgecore at its finest.

Also check early Mistress, Isis Cult Of Luna etc, certain Melvins albums, and Crowbar.

Has Eyehategod actually released any new material since Confederacy Of Ruined Lives?

That sucks, I liked their last album a lot.

I second Zad's Cult of Luna plug, especially if you like Isis.

A couple of splits and an EP. I take it you know of the 'Preaching The End Time Message' collection a year or so back.

Edit: another awesome sludge band: Zatokrev. Think they had a second album out fairly recently.

One of them has a new project that sounds very different from the 1 demo they have up on their myspace

Saw Centurion's Ghost supporting Candlemass last night, who are a little bit sludgy. Kind of Monkey-ish but with faster DM influences too.

I think Today Is The Day is Sludgy enough to warrant a mention here. Weird as fuck, but awesome.

Good call. I never thought of them as sludge but I suppose that fits as well as anything else.

Great band. A couple of my friends in high school were in a indie/noise rock band, and a couple others were in a metal band. Steve Austin produced their CD's and Today is the Day used to come play shows with them. Really nice guys and great live, especially Steve.

Someday, I want to review Willpower or Temple of the Morning Star.

does Buried Inside - Chronoclast remind anyone else of black metal? I guess Chronoclast too to a lesser extent. the guitarists have a very BM tone and style :O
