NEOFOLK!!!

I'm really beginning to love neofolk! Such beautiful music!

So far I've heard:

:Of Wand & The Moon: (credit goes to rio or someone I think)
Forseti (I think Misha mentioned this. I may be wrong)
Stille Volk
Sieben (is this neofolk? anyway thanks again Misha)

Where exactly should I start in neofolk? Or rather, seeing that I have 'started', where should I proceed from here?

np: Forseti - Korn (from Erde).

The name of the song is abit wtf, but my god! I've been repeating this track endlessly!

Check out Gae Bolg. And, make sure you get Windzeit by forseti, that album is amazing.

Try out Troka to, its not neo folk but i think most noe folk fans will like this.

I know a little about darkwave, so I will ask you neo-folk people what the actual difference is between the two genres?

I always thought of dark wave as being a name for new wave bands that had dark lyrics, like Depeche Mode, or Joy Division. However, some people use it as an umbrella term for things like, gothic rock, neo folk, Ethereal wave, Electrogoth, Death pop ect. So i can see why you may get confused. The difference is really that neo folk bands get their influences from (you guessed it) folk. So they'll often use acoustic guitars, violins, acordians, whistles...ect, and the lyrics will be about myths and folk legends, a clear diffence to that of bands like Joy Division.

I always thought of darkwave as Current 93, Death In June, Nurse With Wound, Sol Invictus stuff. Anyhow, I think neo-folk sounds worth exploring. Thanks.

Hmm isn't darkwave more ambienty stuff? From the limited amount I've heard its mostly synths and soundscapes.

Some darkwave is very ambient, but some sounds quite folky. It is very difficult to explain, and not worth the time it would take to explain it.

Anyhow I would like some neofolk.

I've listened to some Gae Bolg and also that Windzeit album. Both are good! hehe but Windzeit > Gae Bolg and the church of fand!

Current 93 - this is one of my favourite bands BTW ;)
Death In June - The Wall Of Sacrifice - just bueatiful, between the nazi marches and neofolk

There's one of the new bands named Rome. Very good!
