I've been obsessing over them for the last half-week or so (like listening to their albums 2x a day each, and they're both 60+ minutes loong...).

So I thought I'd make a thread about them

they're damn good

and they have a new album coming out already!! this really excites me. they must really be firing off music if they can come out with something so soon after Frances the Mute. I also have another serious contender for best of 2006 =)

discuss.

Same, although Miranda/Cassandra Gemini are amazingly awesome songs if I'm in the right mood.

I agree. I love the music of The Mars Volta. I believe that they are amazing and original. Usually there are those who post about Bixler-Zavala's vocals; I believe that they are powerful and generally well done. An incredible band.

I really like 'em but I've only heard deloused. I need to pick up Frances the Mute at some point.

I dont really like them. I just listened to de-loused. The vocals are too annoying for my tastes.

The Mars Volta are not original in any way shape form or idea.

People who say they are original are either wrong or morons or both.

they're the most energetic prog band i've ever heard, which is enough for me. and nobody said they were, so yeah... i don't really see how your comment had any point

btw. if a seemless blend of post-hardcore, free jazz, 70s prog, psychadelic rock, post-rock, and latin jazz isn't original then what is?

Meh, it took me like a month to realize they were good (i'm kind of glad my friend continuosly harassed me to listen to them) and another three to realize how good. So I can kind of see where you're coming from

I've decided I like Frances more because they way they orchestrate the strings/horns along with their main isntruments is awesome.
