After listening to and thoroughly enjoying As The Palaces Burn today, I thought I'd post this poll.

That would be Burn The Priest.

And yes, it counts.

Heh, I didn't know "Site Administrators" like yourself had the power to alter posts and web polls. I'm very afraid now.

Actually, I just moderate several forums. I don't abuse my powers. However, I just had to alter this one. Sorry.

Burn The Priest is so much better than anything else they ever did.

I found the re-release of this album in Boston for $2. I fucking hated it and sold it on eBay for a whopping $2.75. It was that bad. The Lamb Of God songs I've heard have been no better.

I just find it extremely hard to find something to latch onto in their music. All the screaming is fine, but where's the hook?

Hook? Why must everything have a hook? Why must everything be catchy and easily digestible with you? *wink*

The hook for me was the awesome heavy riffage with the math-metal structures and time signatures, the insane vein-popping screaming, the inventive song construction, and the crazy-ass drumming that reminded me of Vinne Paul on methamphetamines.

I LOVE that album.

The attraction of Lamb of God is its lifeless, atonal and relentless domination of your soundscape. Not unlike... Helmet.

I bolded the answer for you! The very first band I listened to was Def Leppard, the masters of the hook. That's just what I like. There are plenty of bands out there that don't have these massive hooks that I enjoy very much, but Lamb Of God just did nothing for me. I can appreciate their technical skill, but I just didn't like any of it.

I'm not calling them a bad band at all, I hope you noticed that. I'm just discussing music. Of course, that has nothing to do with the question of this thread, but thread-hijacking is fun! :D

I think Meshuggah win the lifeless and relentless competition by a few miles

New American Gospel, I haven't heard Burn The Priest, but I should really pick it up at some point. (AOTW in close second)

ATPB is the only one I've heard. Yeah, not a bad band.

Agreed. That's where my vote went. Their most aggressive album in my opinion.

Maybe when the metalcore flames burns a little less bright I can start to enjoy some of its ilk again.

Yep, they are all good!!

Oh, I like the hook too, but I am not always in an upbeat mood. Perhaps this is something more to do with our personalities, and you know, deep issues.
