They are Nu-Metal and they suck at it.

There were a few songs on LD 50 that sounded a lot like Tool, which was interesting, but er since then they've released nothing that wasn't terrible, so..

They are Nu-Metal and they suck at it.

Nothing more to say except ditto

Earlier stuff is nu-metally, but very inventive and original with it. Their more recent stuff appears to have become more conventional supposedly, so I can't be arsed with it.

Well I guess that answers my question haha.

Bah. They lifted all that time signature trickery and dissonant riffing directly from Tool.

I dunno... I think they did it in a different way.

I think L.D. 50 is quite an original album. If you can see through the gimmicky paint they used at the moment to jump into the Slipknot bandwagon, you'll find a very good album. And yes, I agree it had many elements used by Tool, but I think they were used in a different way.

Never did seriously listen to them. From what I heard, they're like the "dream theater of nu-metal."

Ya except not.

The comparision to dream theater is only valid with extreme stress on the Nu metal.

At the beginning yeah, they were alright. For being what they were, they certainly were easier on the ears than most.

As for the ripping off Tool thing, I don't see how you can possibly justify giving them shit for taking two things from a band who simply took them from OTHER BANDS. You think Tool fucking invented dissonance and were the first to play with different time signatures? Someone told me that about Slayer once, too(dissonance)...I'm seeing a pattern here with fans of lame overrated bands...hmm...

No. But they integrated these elements into their music in an original way. They inluenced a ton of (mostly bad) modern metal bands.
I didn't say that Tool are the most original band on the face of the earth, i just said that Mudvayne have a very strong Tool influence.

But when it comes down to it, it's more important to write good music than it is to write original music.
