Thought I would throw this out for curiosity's sake.

Anyone listen to VNV Nation?

I'm a fan of older VNV Nation, though I feel like they lost it after Empires. Not usually a fan of EBM but there's something about these guys' sound that just make them so epic, at least in the older stuff like Praise the Fallen and Empires. On top of that great lyrics as well.

Praise the Fallen is probably my favourite album, though.

Ive enjoyed all of his albums, but I view them as two different era's. Praise the Fallen is a classic, but have you listened to the most recent (Of Faith, Power and Glory)? Probably my favorite of the 2000's output. Judgement was also pretty good.

Thanks for the response, was about to give up hope on this post :)

I've yet to listen to Of Faith, Power and Glory. After seeing the direction they were going in with Futureperfect and Matter + Form I kind of lost interest and didn't check out much off Judgement. I'll give Of Faith, Power and Glory a shot. How would you say it compares with Futureperfect and Matter + Form vs. the early stuff? Can any comparison be made or do they expand beyond it with the latest?

It is in the same veign as those albums, though I would say it is more complex. He has never fully returned to the straight industrial roots of Empire or Praise the Fallen, but at the same time you can still hear them in all of his work. I am personally a huge fan, not only because of the music but also the message behind it, so I would encourage you to give his newer material another shot. Faith, Power, Glory is probably his best recent album, so definitely look into it.

Another band that might interest you is The Cruxshadows. A friend of mine in Washington went to Florida State where they formed, and introduced me to them.

I agree with you on the message, or rather the lyrics. It's one of the things that really attracted me to them when I first discovered them. But I also feel like they need that epic feel to back up those lyrics, and there was something so...I guess you could say "sublime" about the way the lyrics were supported by the music in Praise the Fallen especially. Procession and Honour had especially great lyrics.

Gonna download Of Faith, Power and Glory, though.

I definitely understand what you mean by Praise the Fallen. There was certainly an epic feeling to all of those albums. I dont know, I think the newer material has just suited my mood in later years. Where as before I was pulled in by the bombastic feel of those albums, recently Im more drawn to the simpler atmosphere of Future Perfect and on. It feels less a critique of the world, and more introspective. Listen to The Great Divide, it is one of my favorites and a great example of what I mean.

Everything from Future Perfect on definitely has a pop vibe, though not in a negative way, but if you listen to the previous records definitely no pop there.

Glad you liked it.
