Post subject: | Punk thread! |
Do we have one of these already? I thought that, seeing as metal and punk are often a rather incestuous duo, we could have a thread to discuss punk bands, give/receive recommendations, that sort of thing. What are some of your favorite punk bands? Sub-genres? Why? Do you loathe this genre of music? If so, why? That sort of thing. For me, as I was discovering metal, punk was very much a "secondary" genre. That is to say, if I wanted to listen to punk I would go to a few bands and listen to them consistently to get my punk fix, rather than actually explore the genre too much. For me those bands were Bad Religion and the Misfits. I've been going through a bit of a renaissance with these bands as of late, which is part of the reason as to why I'm creating this thread. Some other bands I've been listening to have been Minor Threat, Black Flag, a bit of Anti-Cimex, Discharge, Negative Approach, and Bad Brains. I'm always open to suggestions for new and awesome music, so if anyone has some personal favorites or some really obvious greats that I'm missing, I'd love to read them. |

Punk is awesome, especially the more raucous anti-establishment punk bands of the days of yore... although I'm really not an expert on that type of music. Favourite punk band is The Clash, and London Calling is one of my all-time favourite records. Also classic older stuff like Dead Kennedys, Discharge, I listen to pretty regularly. Favourite current punk band is Propagandhi, and anyone who looked at the 2009 awards will know that I put their Supporting Caste as my top album of last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltQeK3Kb4O4 |

I always thought they were plain old punk. Well, technically they are a punk band, out of the early UK scene, but they had a lot of influence on the post-punk movement. I agree, BTW, that post-punk / deathrock/batcave (just more creative) >>> punk, though I digs me a some punk, too. Some badass Psychobilly bands out there, too, though don't look for too much diversity. |

If we're throwing post-punk into the mix, then Killing Joke and Swans get a HELL YEAH! from me too. I like a lot of punk/hardcore, pretty much every band mentioned so far, except some of Thom's more obscure stuff. Amebix haven't been mentioned yet, so here's to them. |

Post-punk is interesting because it is so varied. |

While I've heard the term post-punk used before, I'm not entirely sure what it entails, so I'll have to look into it. What are some Psychobilly bands that you'd recommend? |

I never liked lo-fi don't give a shit punk. I only liked the bands that became post-punk and new wave bands later on. |

What are some Psychobilly bands that you'd recommend? Mad Sin Grave Stompers (Funeral Suite is their best) Damage Done By Worms Nekromantix Koffin Kats / V8 Nightmare Asmodeus Os Catalepticos Numbskulls The Spectres Cult Of The Psychic Fetus Zombie Ghost train Godless Wicked Creeps Astro Zombies Krewmen then you have the more traditional bands like Reverend Horton Heat Batmobile Meteors Guana Bats etc there are tons more. Take one part Rockabilly, one part punk, one part horror, some heavy reverb and voila! |

Haha, I love lo-fi don't give a shit punk. There are tons of bands here that I've never listened to or heard of, so I have my work cut out for me. I'll try and post some thoughts/responses, but they may not be in any manner timely. |
