Pick your favorite. I'd have to go with AIC, but I really enjoy Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. I hate Nirvana, and find them nowhere near as talented as any of the other three.

For some reason Soundgarden didn't get added. Could one of you mods fix that?

Alice in Chains for me. Pearl Jam's great and all, but Alice has a far more consistent discography.

Nirvana sucks.

No love for Tad or Mudhoney or Melvins? Of the four, I'd go with Pearl Jam.

Alice In Chains.

And yes, Nirvana sucks.

What, no "they all suck" option?

BOO!!!!!!

Alice in Chains for me, PJ a close second, Soundgarden not too far back. There is a chasm between those three and Nirvana though.

Supported, was never too fond of grunge, though I have some Alice in Chains records lying around as well as some Pearl Jam. Both decent bands, but yeah, never got into it.

Nirvana really aren't that bad... They are a completely different band to all the other three, a lot more punky and dare I say more rock n roll. If ever there was a band to suffer from extra-musical baggage (alongside Burzum), it is they.

Yes, I don't dislike Nirvana, and still listen to them occasionally. I don't like them nearly as much as the other three though.

Pearl Jam with AIC as a close second. Nirvana is a little more boring.

Indeed. Celtic Frost influence ftw!

Bleach was pretty solid albeit not as original as some make it out to be.

I think my extreme dislike for Nirvana is partially a result from them being overplayed on the radio. That being said, I still think they are pretty boring.

I voted Nirvana because I used to listen to them when I was like 14 and still think they're pretty good.

Dig all those bands. I'd say, in order it would be Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. Given better choices, though, I'd have picked Tad. They fucking RULED! And Mother Love Bone would also be close to the top.

if you want to add tad and mother love bone you should also have to add:
screaming trees
mad season
temple of the dog
green river
mudhoney
and possibly some other lesser known bands

I think, even now, Nirvana remains a fairly unique band. No one has replicated that sound, before or after. (I know a band can't replicate something before. You know what I mean, so shut the fuck up!) On a very basic level, they're not original, but originality is often a case of nuance, especially these days.

For instance, look at Rage Against The Machine. No way in hell are they original in a basic sense; they're a Downset clone, for the most part. What does set them apart, is Morello's guitar technique. Again, not very original overall, but that slight difference makes then recognizable, thus unique, or "original."
