Post subject:  Am I missing a new trend of Tribute bands lately?

Well, it all started with my current reading of a review for Throwdown's new album, Venom & Tears. The review concluded by using the age-old adage for any MTV2 band, dubbing them "the future of metal." So I decided to give the "future of metal" a listen, and boy oh boy, these guys give copyright infringement a nice shiny gloss.

To say they ripped off Pantera would be an understatement. Hell, the lead singer even makes the same scrunched face look that Phil Anselmo does. Just watch for yourselves:

So basically, have metalcore bands evolved into this? Is screamo-core or Breakdown-core not marketable anymore? Have they run out of At The Gates and In Flames tabs to mimic?

First, there's Avenged Sevenfold, who, in my estimation, were a bit tired of the breakdown-induced, metaphor-laden emocore they played early in their career. So they decided to rip off Iron Maiden imagery and lyric style. And oh yeah, their guitar leads too.

And then we get the copy-paste job of one Matthew Heafy and The Crusade . Although I'm a bit biased on this one, since they play Metallica better than Metallica does.

Now this Pantera mirroring by a band that started out as a JOKE BAND!

So what's next? Because, like with any MTV2 band, once something gets popular on "The Ball", more and more bands will start doing it and doing it worse, which is pretty much how metalcore got its legs in the first place. At least bands like The Black Dahlia Murder have expanded their sound and have matured into a credible extreme metal act. But what I've seen lately is certainly no "future of metal" by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, since you've launched that thread, let me tell you about the greatest tribute band ever : Musical Box.

It's a tribute band to Gensis who does exactly what Genesis did in the 70's (that includes light show, costumes and other live effects)...

Peter Gabriel brought his children to see the band saying it did so to "Let his children know what he did when he was young"

Banks has been heard saying they did exactly what Genesis used to do, only better.

I don't know about other bands but Throwdown is a good enough Pantera supplement and are a ton better than Down and Hellyeah to me. There have always been bands copying other bands sounds; its nothing new I don't think.

i agree with the new throwdown album basicly being a pantera tribute. I still like the album (otherwise i wouldn't have bought it obviously). But i prefer there more hardcore related stuff.

I don't like Down and Throwdown did a decent Pantera album.

Throwdown sound nothing like Pantera.

EDIT: I take it back. Apparently this band has changed. At about 1:16 in that video it's a total ripoff of Pantera's "Rise."

I told you. They even mimic their movements and mannerisms.

Throwdown fucking sucks. I saw them live at an In Flames show a couple years ago and for some reason they received more stage time than Evergrey.

The " I like to take my shirt off and spill my beer while I mosh around like a tard " crowd really dug them though.

Bullshite.
