Don't forget Atreyu and Funeral for a Friend. Or are those not even considered metal at all?

nah, all the emos in school listen to those, not metal really

Well yeah, I guess. Then again, that would mean that Evanescence is no metal either, since everyone I know who does not listen to anything but the commersial radioshows loves them. Almost everyone anyway...
And I probably should not even ask, but here goes; What exactly is considered to be "emo"?

I must say your personal signature is hilarious metalhead :D
Love it.

i asked the emos in school and they denied they were emos, but i think...
emo=pop-punk with more winy vocals and very catchy and commercialised, with emphasis on being anti-establishment and having fun. better ask emokid, really.

Emo = Emotional, surely? All about ex-girlfriends and stuff.

you're wrong, the worst bands do talk about shit like that but so did the worst metal bands in the 80's with girls & cars...there's a lot of bands (remember the pics I posted on Hellheim ?) that have other kinds of lyrics.

proof :
Quote:
Faraquet - The View from This Tower

When I leave here I’ll be glad
Much like the ones that drove me out
Their smiling heads wag as one
Taking care nurture your ego
But we’re not being chosen the truth they bear
I said let them play with their power and fracture
Let’s take on something less petty
I’m ready to move on
I’m ready

Quote:
Fugazi -Song: Ex-Spectator

looking out for cars and mortality trying to find some sort of geometry
avoiding mistakes keep an eye on every step i take
everything is building and it appears that you're all architects and engineers
that's how it looks that's how it looks from here
i'm an ex-spectator can't you see
i'm an ex-spectator never let me, never let my, never let my vision get in the way of
here's some questions that the writer sent
can an observer be a participant?
have i seen too much?
does it count if it doesn't touch?
if the view is all i can ascertain pure understanding is out of range
if i make that call why can't i make that change?
i'm an ex-spectator can't you see?
i'm an ex-spectator never let my never let my vision get in the way of me

Quote:
Dismemberment Plant - Academy Award

Playing for the bleachers now
Letting them beat you and showing them how
Dangling yourself from the cross
All out of nails, but here’s your hammer, boss
And the Academy Award for ridiculous over-acting goes to you
So get on up there and give us a speech
Taking all the attention away
After your performance, there’s no one left to nominate
Dangling yourself from the cross
All out of nails, but, uh, here’s your hammer, boss
And the Academy Award for embarrassing melodrama goes to you
So get on up there and give us a speech
Don’t forget the little people
Who never were around
And the bigger ones who kept you down
Always knew you could do it…
We always knew you could do it
Jason Caddell!
Don’t forget the little people
Who never were around
And the bigger ones who let you down
Always knew you could do it.
We always knew you could do it.
We always knew you could do it.
You couldn’t do it without us…
We always knew you could do it.

Quote:
Sense Field - Sight Unseen

I want to spread the word
of the earth and heavens
to end the anger between the two
slowly slipping out of sight
to swim for days
thinking to see land
find a rose with all the weeds
tell it is beautiful
the tide argues but recedes
to leave the sands behind
we'll end the anger between the two
slowly slipping out of sight
traces of the sinking ships
blend in well where the water drips
onto the boy who looks up and smiles
to see where it is coming from
what we want is free
what we want is free
what we want is free
what we want is free
to swim for days
thinking to see land
find a rose with all the weeds
tell it is beautiful
traces of the sinking ships
blend in well where the water drips
onto the girl who looks up and smiles
knowing she is just as STRONG...STRONG...STRONG

and this is just a (very very very) few examples...

Ok, Ok, I'm convinced! Not really an expert on the subject.

Oh.. yeah.. this thread.

Check out Coal Chamber's cover of Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey".. most of their other tracks are pretty dull, but this one's interesting because it's a cover that significantly changes the style and chords while not being totally dissimilar to the original.

Yeah yeah.. Coal Chamber, I know.. but do try and listen to it

Coal Chamber is the most brutal Nu-Metal band IMO
