Do Despised Icon count as deathcore?
I do believe so. Still fail.

Bullshit.
Just cause they have a guy from Neuraxis doesn't make them good.

Ew at All Shall Perish. They're simply boring deathcore. At least, iwabo incorporates shit beyond chug, chug, inhale, gurgle, rinse and repeat.

lol

Half-assed techno interludes =/= creativity, neither does some chick warbling for 20 seconds at a time before a breakdown. Especially when they do it in every damn song they write in the same way.

Do remember we are talking about deathcore here. Don't criticize them for not being Dream Theater. That "warbling" is twenty times better than the limp exhale of the other deathcore bands.

I'm just curious here... What makes a good Deathcore band?

To be brutally honest, I think Deathcore flatout sucks, but that's just me.

What makes you guys appreciate it ?

Yes, Deathcore has a massive penchant for formulas, but I would much rather listen to "chug, chug, inhale, gurgle, rinse and repeat" than I Wrestled A Bear Once's obnoxious dance beats and warbling.

I don't mind Deathcore as long as it's not songs made entirely of breakdowns and chugga-chugging, like Whitechapel or The Acacia Strain.

I like Veil Of Maya because they have some really cool guitar leads, and they can be pretty creative when they're not doing breakdowns. "It's Not Safe To Swim Today" is probably the best Deathcore song I've ever heard. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRIjMVfk3Hg , if anyone's interested.)

All Shall Perish just write really good, solid Deathcore songs.

Glass Casket is another great band. They have a very strong Death Metal presence compared to most other Deathcore bands.

You're not looking for complicated shit or anything beyond the chugga chugga breakdown formula. At least Despised Icon and All Shall Perish have the presence of mind not to be pretentious and to stick with what they know sounds good. It gets boring quickly, but hey, everything gets boring at a certain point.

+1.

I'd like Veil of Maya more if their drumming was better.

now this is gay
There are so many worse deathcore bands than that one.

Man has a point, but lately I've just been soooooo burnt out by them. That's all that tour around here practicly, most good metal bands stay away from here. And the kids eat this shit up,literally, its scary how good business is for these young trendy bands popping up around here. And when I go to show them(kids) any real decent metal they're like "eewww, where's the breakdown?!Where's the catchy chorus?".Sad really, and I used to give it a chance, but few bands impress me,since its nearly all about making the most br00tal moshing breakdown.Hell all the decent bands are even looking for new means of spicing up an otherwise tired fad, electronics, incorperating blackened metal elements etc.A few succeed, like All Shall Perish, but for the most part I'm through with this schtuffs.

thats because metalcore is still the new sound, much to the dismay of the "tr00" metalheads. You need to know where to look first off, bands like The Red Chord, Glass Casket, Through the eyes of the dead, With Passion, and Whitechapel blow rings past the likes of shit like Impending doom and Liferuiner. Much for the reason they incorporate different elements, i don't think necessarily to be different but because thats what they grew up with. I mean you can talk to these guys and they'll tell you they grew up listening to Suffocation along with the likes of NYHC like Cro Mags and Agnostic front. I think the deathcore stigma does a lot to damage the credibility of these bands that play the music that has hardcore influences but doesn't overplay with breakdowns. Thats my take on Despised Icon at least.

i listen to it because of the heaviness, it is repetitive granted but i would choose anything by Whitechapel then the millions of shitty goregrind bands and brutal death bands that plague the area I live.

check out After the burial
