I don't want to make that kind of commitment until I've sat naked on a desolate mountaintop in some far-off corner of the earth and listened to both albums over and over for the better part of a year.

But it's damned good, and the people bashing it are one of two things, those two things being:
A) Dumb
B) Deaf

It sounded just as good as the other Isis I've heard. But I've never really been big into them, so I'm probably wrong :P

If anyone still bothers to count Isis as anything approaching post-rock, their new album is like melting chocolate and pouring it into your ears with a funnel, by which I mean it is a veritable eargasm.

I'm scared to listen to it, because a lot of people are bashing it. But by your delicious description, I may just give it a shot. Would you say it's better than Panopticon?

I'm not a big Isis fan, but I thought their new album was excellent, and far better than Panopticon.

Anyone ever heard of Dreamend? I stumbled onto these guys earlier today and am liking what I've heard so far (As If By Ghosts) - kind of a hybrid of shoegaze and post-rock...

Dreamend

Nice music, but where's the Shoegaze?

Think most of those songs are from the newer album. There's a bit of it here and there in the one I'm listening to, which is an earlier release... Still, (and after listening to it again), I probably should have said post-rock with occasional bits of shoegaze.

I really like this album though. There are a couple of songs that are misses for me, but those don't take much away, overall.

Charles' Isis-bashing never ceases to be amusing, yet terribly wrong at the same time. Like children running into walls.

I'm not sure whether to go and see Isis. Their music doesn't seem like it would transfer well to a live setting. I might go just to annoy rio.

I'm glad my ISIS bashing is a source of amusement to you all, however it keeps me awake at night on a regular basis. You know, just plotting...

New Isis was a huge letdown for me, it doesn't go anywhere.
