Nu-metal is WAY better than emo/hard-core bullshit

I'd rather listen to SoaD or Disturbed than As I Lay Dying.

Headbanger's Ball? Yeah right. Metalcore's Ball (as I like to refer to it--and this does carry merit) is 2 hours of non-stop "WAHH-WAHH screamo vocals, chugga-chugga riffs, breakdowns, and "Oh, the girl in glass screams love from December's trees of everlasting poetry and blood-soaked memories"-type lyrics. Granted, I'm not an avid MTV2 viewer, but at times I would click by it and see a Suffocation, Nile, or Pig Destroyer video. But that was then, and this is now. And now sucks.

Here's the dilemma with this vomit-inducing genre: It confuses you. In saying this, nu-metal was nu-metal. You could easily tell the difference between Morbid Angel and Korn, or Limp Bizkit and In Flames. Now, with MC, you can't! I don't know, when I turn on satellite radio or Winamp, whether I'm listening to some nice melodic death metal, or more recycle bin metalcore that blatantly rips "At The Gates" riffs! The metal wannabees are even worse. Now that their backwards-red Yankees hat and depressed Baskersfield, CA-genre is dead as shit, they naturally turned to metalcore. Now, because of the genre's punishing sound, they pass this afterbirth off as being "extreme hardcore duuude I am teh metal 666" I've even seen reviews calling Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, and other bands of their ilk "modern thrash"...GAG! Modern Thrash is Strapping Young Lad, not some half-head shaved, black fingernail polish queer who writes lyrics of emoish content. I can't even forsee this genre dying, since technically it is a part of metal. Nu was so far off the radar, that it was destined to die. But this genre is on the surface as well as underground.

Now, there is some decent metalcore, say old Underoath, old Poison the Well, and Zao. But a good percentage of the genre is garbage, and there's frightfully no end in sight.

Be careful calling In Flames nu-metal, admitedly their last 2 albums sucked pretty bad and definatly had nu-metal influences, but to label one of the great melodic death bands as nu-metal just cos they've gone of the beaten track on their last couple of albums is not a good idea imo.

He was comparing In Flames to Limp Bizkit, not calling IF nu-metal. Read more carefully!

Comparing In Flames to nu-metal is like to compare Limb Bizkit to KoRn. These bands might not sound allike but they can easily be recognized as nu-metal. Nu-metal is very broad a genre, and the mainstream of it is all quite original. In Flames fits in quite well, Claymen already showed where the road was leading to and Reroute was its affirmation.

and soundtrack to your escape was the nail in the coffin, hopefully 'Crawl Through Knives' (the new album they are recording at the moment) will be better, but with a name like that it sounds more like its gonna turn out to be some crappy emocore album with 3 chords per song and whiny vocals about how much they hate their parents cos they loved them too much and how much they miss their girlfriend who broke up with them. But the fact that they are the same band that came out with Jester Race, Lunar Strain, Subterrainian, Whoreacle, Colony and Clayman makes up for it (despite many people thinking Clayman was the start of their decent to crappyness I think it's an amazing album, hence the name...)

Clayman was ok. nothing too special. I lost interest in melodeath long ago...nowadays only a few bands are worth listening to.

Modern metalcore=the new nu-metal

However, I would say that I would much rather listen to crummy metalcore than crummy nu-metal. Would you rather listen to As I Lay Dying or Limp Bizkit?

Ah yes, the famous penis scale for telling how much music sucks.

nah metal core sucks way more penis than nu-mtal. Theres a little bit of nu-metal thats decent and nu-metal fans generaly don't walk around calling killswitch the "heaviest fucking metal every G". Cause as stupid as nu metal is, the fans seem to have less delusions of greatnes than the metalcore.

While I agree that metalcore does, indeed, suck more penis than nu-metal, there are (or at least there used to be) plenty of nu-metal kiddies running around espousing Slipknot as the heaviest fucking metal ever, G. Metalcore kids annoy me far more than nu-metal kiddies, though. The overall attitude among nu-metal fans tends to be closer to the sense of brotherhood in metal than the more hardcore-influenced metalcore attitude.

Around these parts Metalcore kids are just the Nu Metal kids. They're the same people, just following a different trend. All the Papa Roach hoodies have been replaced by Avenged Sevenfold ones.

maybe you're right... but Avenged Sevenfold doesn't play metalcore... they play classic heavy metal infused with power metal à la Blind Guardian and like 5% punk... :D

so shut up...
