1. I don't think that was serious.
2. Agreed to a point; I prefer the Stones, but it's mind-boggling how much they ripped The Beatles off.

1. You get a lot of flak for hating Beatles here, so maybe maybe not.

2. Didn't they come out at the same time and back then there was this whole thing between Beatles and Stones fans?

1. Yeah, remember the good old days when admitting that you liked Arch Enemy was enough to get you ritually disembowelled then banned?
2. Hey, I'm not that old. I think so, though.

This is just me, but I never understood how anyone could prefer the Rolling Stones to The Beatles. I never liked the Rolling Stones, they just bore me to death. And they never did anything that the Beatles didn't do first and/or better.

Yes, except selling out to the disco trend (Miss You, what a crapfest).
The Beatles are divine, The Stone are worms.

Just joking lol. Seriously, can anyone recommend anything from that time period that's as heavy or heavier?

So yeah, what's the heaviest shit you know pre-Sabbath?

- Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum (recorded in 1967, released in 1968)
- The Cream's Disraeli Gears (1967)
- Grand Funk Railroad's On Time (1969)
- Steppenwolf's ST (1968)

There might (and must) be more but those are the first coming to mind.

Mountain was pretty damn heavy, and I'm not just talking about their singer.

Mariani's Perpetuum Mobile (1970) is pretty heavy psychedelic stuff too. Recommanded. :dio:

Does anyone here think that Blue Cheer was metal before Sabbath?

I would say no because of the heaviness of the Black Sabbath title track, but there's a lot of that album which is blues rock.

2. Playing in an Elvis tribute band with a bunch of loud elderly alcoholic Geordies kind of put me off Rock and Roll for a long time, but the older, blacker stuff is the coolest, I agree. Although someone mentioned Bill Haley upstream which strikes me as a bit of a sanitised white imitation... Clearly I wasn't around then so please correct me if I am wrong.

High Tide - Sea Shanties. I reviewed it for here, and everyone ignored it.
