I was tempted to put this in the Prog Rock forum, but people would probably freak! Anyway, I have to admit, when I first heard their self-titled album a few years back I was pretty shocked at how goddamn good it was. For those that don't know, Jared Leto is the lead singer. Unlike other bands that feature actors, this band is awesome! Very much like a mix of prog rock and alt-rock. Awesome! I always try and listen to actors' bands, just to see if they're any good. The curiosity factor gets me. So far...

Dogstar (Keanu Reeves) = Bad! Bad! Bad!
30 Odd Foot Of Grunts (Russell Crowe) = Boring (though better than you'd think)
Accelerators (Bruce Willis) = Crap
The Bacon Brothers (Kevin Bacon) = Terrible

Just to name a few. Most suck and are only able to put this crap out because of their existing fame. But, 30 Seconds To Mars are the exception. I just picked up their second CD, it's fxcking killer! So, they're 2-0, thus a damn good band in my book. Anyone else listen to them?

Please, before replying and saying they suck, HAVE YOU HEARD THEM? They're damn good!

Found the s/t in the bargain bin. Picked it up but haven't been able to hear it.... (Law school is driving me crazy!).

Is this one better than the new one?

OK, I've played it a couple of times and I must say it is enjoyable. Nothing amazing (and not so progish IMO), but it's a good album, specially to kick back end enjoy some drinks with a couple of friends.

How's the new one different?

I think for the style it's pretty proggish, songs like "Buddha For Mary" and whatnot. Jared Leto has a damn good voice. Anyway, I think that album is awesome. The new one is more straightforward and less...experimental, I guess. I do still like it, but I kind of wish they took it a step further with all the effects and weird songs, you know? They streamlined it for this new album. Still damn good, though.

But if you're not very impressed with the first album, you may want to listen to some clips before buying the latest one. If you go to http://www.thirtysecondstomars.com they have "I'll Attack!" streaming, you'll see what I mean.

I'll check the new one out. And I wasn't impressed, but I do enjoy it, specially that space touch their music has. And Leto does have a nice voice, although he tries too hard to sound like Maynard James Keenan at times...

What if he's not trying at all? :shock: He may just sing like that, you know?
