No they're not an emo band.

I've always had a thing for guitars that are soaked in various form of effects/distortion/layering. My Bloody Valentine took this to new and fun extremes, spending over 500,000$ perfecting the "floating on pink clouds" feeling of Loveless. I just thought I'd bring them up because I hear resemblancse to their sound in a lot of metal - Neurosis (especially their last two), Agalloch and the more repetitious forms of black metal (although rather than floating on pink clouds its more like a crashing airplane through thunderstorm, or something a lot more violent).

Anyone else heard of/like them? Shoegazer in general? Music where the guitars totally envellope your ears??

I have heard of them and have been wanting to check them out for awhile now ... wasn't sure which album to start with, however. Guess I shall start with Loveless.

I've heard the Agalloch comparison too, which makes me even more interested. :)

I love the feeling I get whenever I listen to Loveless. It's like being immersed in a warm place where nothing ever goes wrong. Incredible stuff.

Yeah, I got Loveless too. Great album, MBV are the kings of shoegazer. You might want to check God Is An Astronaut to get into the genre, great post-rock with shoegazer mix. Fennesz - Venice is pretty amazing too, he used to be a shoegazer, but he got into electronics and makes shoegazer-like noises and takes it to extremes.

I have greatly enjoyed the shoegazer that I have listened to. My Bloody Valentine of course and also I'm quite fond of Slowdive. I'll have to give God is an Astronaut a shot too.
