when we last heard from Alcest they were kinda black metal... now (to my dissapointment) they are.. uhm.. something something... relaxing folk drone black metal with pet shop boys vocals.... perhaps not the best discription, and not very accurate, that's why i'm not a reviewer...

here's two samples from the upcoming release, a full-lenght.. hope it has some black in it  but for now, i'll just post it here.

Heia! Besides from the vocals this is pretty good, and I think it retains the spirit of Alcest pretty well... Too bad those faggot ass vocals fuck it up.. It could have been a great blackened post-rockish treat otherwise. We need more bands in this field. Until now Agalloch's Asses Against the Groin have been pretty much all there is in this style, so a bit of 'competition' would be very nice.

The cover looks very sweet and innocent, so I guess an all out black metal assault wouldn't really be appropriate..

Le Secret was a pretty cool album, but I haven't listened to it for ages. I think maybe it's slightly one-dimensional perhaps? Very mellowing, though. After a couple of listens I think maybe the new stuff could possibly be a step up for them. But it sounds a little too clean and pleasant...

Woo, this is good, reminds me of more mellow Jesu. Le Secret has been on my 'must-get' list for ages (if you tell me it's in MusicZone, Charles, I'll murder you). I'll be getting this.

Heh, Music Zone may be cheap but it doesn't have anything that isn't very mainstream. Never in a million years would Alcest make it onto their shelves.

Anyhoo, the one in Leeds has closed down

I think the whole company's getting canned. They opened a second branch in Glasgow then within a month it and the other one were both closed.

That sucks, I miss the horror DVDs they were selling for £0.97 that they always just left lying around on the floor.

I remember, I picked up a Masters of Horror Boxed Set from the Zone for £4.97. Walked past the exact same product in crappy HMV? £19.99!!!

Now I'm off to paw longingly at its once open door.
