I don't get this talk of, "Well, when I was young and dumb I loved that stuff, but not anymore!" I don't get that at all. This isn't food. This isn't something that gave you food poisoning, or a flavor of alcohol that you drank too much of and puked for a week. It's music! It's like a movie! You like it now, you like it later. I've never heard anyone go, "I loved that movie a few years ago, but not anymore!" It's weird.

It's a simple concept really. Some people my only like Korn (for example) because it is the only thing they know, through radio exposure or whatever. Once a person is exposed to music outside of the mainstream, they may find music that is far superior and suits their needs better than the bands they knew. Some bands are just sutiable for getting you into a genre, but once you are there you realize how one dimensional that band is.

I'm not saying this is the case with the Deftones.

I understand that, but does that make you then dislike those other bands? I don't understand how that works. Maybe it's just me, but if I liked something in 1987, I like it today.

I don't know if I have grown out of anything or not. Maybe liking Rush or some shit like that but I tend to be like Ken and pretty much still like stuff I dug when I was a kid even if I don't listen to it now. If I popped in a Blue Oyster Cult or Scorpions album from back then I would still like it although a lot of that shit doesn't age well.

As for the Deftones, I went to see my friends band play the other day and the band that came up after them the dude was wearing a Deftones shirt and I left before they played just for that reason. I just knew what ever it would be would be bad....... You get minus 50 points in the band catagory if you were Deftones shirts at any gig in the Lee rule book.

Now your just being shirtist. You should know by now that you have to judge a person by the colour of their skin, not the shirt they wear. The bigotry of some people!

I just got the new album today. I haven't made it all the way through yet, but the first four songs sound great. It's like they took the calm, elegant approach from the s/t and added just enough of their aggressive past to give it a unique edge. Barring a major second half meltdown, this album will be a huge success in my eyes. I'll be curious to see what you think of it Al, but I think you'll like it alot.

EDIT: After one full listen, the only song that really jumps out as a shitfest is "Pink Cellphone". I can only hope due the stupid song title and the ridiculous subject matter of the lyrics from Annie Hardy that the song is a joke, but it still sucks. The rest of the album, however, is pretty cool. I'm definitely not disappointed.
