LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler has commented on the the success of the band's new album, "Wrath", which sold around 68,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 (behind TAYLOR SWIFT's "Fearless") on The Billboard 200 chart.
LAMB OF GOD's previous album, "Sacrament", sold around 63,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in August 2006 to land at No. 8. Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and setting fire to three churches — will soon be a free man.
In September 2008, Vikernes's fourth application for parole was denied, but a couple of weeks ago he finally received the message he has been waiting for: after almost 16 years in prison, he will be released. INFERNUS Claims Victory In GORGOROTH Name Dispute

The verdict has been reached in the dispute over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name involving vocalist Gaahl, bassist King ov Hell and the group's estranged guitarist Infernus.
Infernus (real name: Roger Tiegs) filed a lawsuit against King ov Hell (real name: Tom Cato Visnes) in September 2008 claiming that King (the sixth bass player in GORGOROTH's history) went behind his back in September 2007 and secretly applied for trademark protection of the GORGOROTH bandname and logo, which Infernus had been using since 1992. AKERCOCKE Frontman Discusses Vinyl Collection

The new issue of Record Collector magazine features an extensive interview with Jason Mendonça of British progressive death metallers AKERCOCKE, conducted by writer Joel McIver. In the interview Mendonça discusses his large collection of rare vinyl, including several techno and drum 'n' bass releases hailing back to his pre-AKERCOCKE career as a DJ and producer.
Mendonça is pictured below with rare vinyl items from his collection, including the "vomit pack" issue of VIO-LENCE's "Eternal Nightmare" and the picture-disc LP of DARKTHRONE's "Soulside Journey", among others. SUSPERIA Vocalist Suffers Heart Attack

Athera (real name: Pal Mathieson), vocalist with Norwegian metal band SUSPERIA, was rushed into Akershus Universitetssykehus Hospital in Lørenskog, Norway on the morning of March 9 suffering from acute stomach pains and heavy bleeding. Initial tests revealed that the singer had suffered a heart attack caused by a damaged blood vessel. Athera is currently in the intensive care unit under close observation, while further tests are carried out. He is expected to remain hospitalized for the foreseeable future. At this moment, future plans, including touring commitments, remain unchanged until a full diagnosis of his condition has been confirmed.

OPETH: Tel Aviv Show Cancelled

Swedish progressive metallers OPETH have been forced to cancel their previously announced April 13 concert at the Theatre Club in Tel Aviv, Israel "due to the fact that it became logistically impossible to deliver gear and backline to Israel and have it clear customs in time for the show," according to a posting on the group's web site. "The band hopes to be able to play in Israel later in the year when their schedule is less heavy time-wise, allowing sufficient time for freighting necessary equipment."

Italian metallers SLOWMOTION APOCALYPSE have completed work on their third album, tentatively titled "Mothra", at Planet Red Studios in Richmond, Virginia with producer Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THE AGONY SCENE, SCARLET, DUFRESNE, BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE, SPITFIRE, TWELVE TRIBES). Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Forever, Works Just in Songs", "A Full View On Heaven", "Gamera I: Death Worship Era", "Gamera II: The So Called Northern Half", "What a Rockin' Heavy Metal Get-Up, Dude!"."
