DAN SWANO: Vic Records To Re-Release ODYSSEY EP
03 Feb 2007
Back in 1999, Utopian Vision Music released a three-song self-titled EP by Odyssey, a band featuring the legendary Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale), Rick Gustafson (ex-Memory Garden), and Kenth Philipsson (Dark Funeral, The Project Hate). The EP has long been out-of-print and sought after, nearly since its release. Sometime in 2007, Vic Records, who recently bought the rights, will re-release this outstanding slab of epic progressive metal. The EP will be remastered by Swanö and will feature one brand new track written by Swanö and Philipsson. Commenting on the new track, Swanö says, “The new Odyssey track will be a blend of our favourites: Blumchen and E.L.O., or not….” In related news, Dan Swanö and his brother Dag are getting ready to release the upcoming Nightingale album, White Darkness. This album was largely written by the ever-capable Dag Swanö, with Dan co-writing two tracks, and doing the lyrics for six out of the ten tracks on the album. Dan Swanö is also finishing up recordings for his long-awaited Second Sky album—and possibly a second featuring re-recorded Unicorn tracks. Bearing a different name—a better name—Second Sky is essentially a reincarnation of the progressive rock band Unicorn, which Swanö formed in the late 80s when he was still a teenager, releasing four demos and two full-lengths. Look for both sometime in 2007.
