Lilitu members form new band

In regards to the possibility of changing their name the Atlanta, Georgia based metal outfit Lilitu have started a new band by the name of Blood Promise.

Derek Bonner (guitars / vocals) offers some insight in the situation: "Blood Promise is a name that has been floating around for a while. I have had the name embedded in my brain and it has been close to my heart. I initially kept the name for an acoustic side project that I was doing. The more things started to change w/ Lilitu and my other projects, I then decided that Blood Promise would be the best fit for what I wanted to do in the rock/metal world. The band also insisted that we use it, due to it's simplicity and poetic flair. Plain & simple, it just made sense. The name is marketable & easy to comprehend for once, compared to our experience w/ Lilitu. Yes, you may recognize several members from Lilitu. For the most part, youd be right! You may be interested to know exactly where the name came from.

"Blood Promise" was a song from the legendary cult band, SWANS and appeared on the classic album, "The Great Annihilator" which was originally released in 1994. The song still stands as a beautiful syrupy ballad stripped to torture & hypnosis. The lyrics are as passionate as the name implies. My friendship w/ ex-member singer songwriter, Jarboe makes the name that much more special to me."

Regarding Lilitu: "Lilitu is still a band. We are going to continue recording for The End Records. After the tour, several members took a break while struggling to make ends meet. Personal lives & relationships suffered, but thats just Rock N Roll. At any rate, Lilitu has plans to release an acoustically based rock album this summer entitled, White nights in a day room, Black sun in the daytime. It will include myself, among other former members and special studio guests. The music will remain epic as ever while bringing new & exciting elements to the mix. The album will be comprised of different genres, ranging from reggae, folk, country to modern rock & metal varieties. Influences are evident, w/ the likes of Morrissey, Burzum, Death in June, Waylon Jennings, & Jeff Buckley. Not to worry, fans will be pleasantly surprised! The band also plans to play some acoustic shows in support of the new album."

More recently, Blood Promise has just filmed a music video for their song Suite 218 with director David Brodsky (Trivium, Dillinger Escape Plan). To listen to four of their new songs head over to their Myspace page by clicking on the link below.
