Kobra and The Lotus return with Prevail I(Part II is coming). Prevail I has more variety in it's style and approach then its predecessors. Kobra Paige sounds as strong as ever with a voice that is equal parts powerful yet emotional. The rest of the musicians within the band are as good as it gets, consistent and proficient, and at times showing a dazzling display of technical ability.

Gotham starts off in typical Kobra fashion, blistering speeds, technical riffs and Page's soaring vocals. Songs like TriggerPulse and You Don't Knowthat follow, show a more subdued Paige. Softer vocals without the roughness at times she displays. She uses a great amount of dynamics with her range. Whether soft and delicate or ready to rip your face off, she does it all in both songs. Specimen X(The Mortal Chamber) is the longest song at over six and a half minutes, and shows the classic Kobra mesh with some of the new. While Light Me Upand Manifest Destiny are not exactly ballads, they are some of Paige's most emotional moments on the entire disc. Light Me Up also has a guitar solo that was so memorable, I thought of it a day later. The heaviness returns with the groove fest that is Victim and later Hell On Earth and the closer, the title track. Again classic Kobra but not a carbon copy with each song standing out on its own. Between those songs is the instrumental Check The Phyrg, which allows Jasio Kulakowski(guitar), Brad Kennedy(Bass) and Marcus Lee(drums) the chance to show their abilities and let loose. Kulakowski makes sure that this does not turn into one long guitar solo, which to me is a compliment within itself. The title track closes out the disc in typical KATL fashion, leaving everyone wanting part II.

Prevail I is different but just as strong as their last, High Priestess, if not more mature. Paige's vocals are near the top of my favorites in music. It can be beautiful, powerful and angry all at the same time. Easily one of the best vocalist of this generation with band members who only elevate her performance even higher with their own abilities. A contender definitely for one of my top ten of the year so far!
