Well well well. It is not a metal album at all......but one of the
best drummer (who said the best ?) has decided to record his own album
: 'Shadows Of The Past'. I am definitively not psychiatric or soothsayer.....so
I prefer to simply re-write the enclosed words of Mike Teranna who explains
why he has done such type of music :
"This CD-commemorates the 30th Anniversary of my drumming carrer....
I wanted to make a drum oriented CD, but I didn't want it to be a boring
self-indulgent collection of drum solos. I felt it was important to
show people another side of my playing style. The melodies and the arrangements
of the songs were just as important as the grooves that propel them.
At the last minute I decided to include a drum solo on the CD. It was
recorded in Holland on my most recent tour of Europe. I believe it truly
captures the primal energy, spirit and sole of my drumming. I hope that
you have as much fun listening to this CD as I did making it !".
So, you will have fun listening to this very astonishing album as long
as you are open mind and forgot what has been done by Mike with Metallian,
Rage or Squealer (just to mention the recent bands he played for) because
it has NOTHING to do with power metal or heavy metal. It is more a kind
of pop/jazz. Some songs can be used for those "cops" TV series.
They are "fast" and have this typical "TV soundtrack" characteristic.
Mike has taken some risk. He didn't "recorded" something easy. I don't
know if metal fan will like it, but personally I have mega big problems
with jazz.......BUT I really like this one. Have a cup of whisky, smoke
a cigar and rest in peace in a comfortable sit. The music will call
you. Trust me.
Mr Mike's solo is placed on the last track. As usual (for those who
have seen Mike live) it is just.........Perfect.
