Singapore extremists Impiety present unspeakably antisocial blackened death in the chaotic vein of Sadistik Exekution, and if they don’t quite possess that band’s baffling foul-mouthed ranting capacity, they make up for it with extra-enthusiastic hatred of Christianity and goat-molesting assault. Terroreign is a relentless rush of sound, with crashing tidal wave drumrolls propelling a murderous guitar barrage that leaves your ears in need of a good sit down.

The riffs here are violently torn from various branches of the extreme metal tree. Generally they have a primordial death metal feel, coming across like some of the pre-Scream Bloody Gore Death demos, or perhaps a better comparison is the Satanic likes of Sarcofago. But as with many bands they are brutalized by exposure to the evolution of second wave black metal between then and now, and their deathly blasts are frequently twisted into a furious tremolo. The drumming is immense; hurling a punishingly fast clatter at rest of the band, forcing them to drive harder.

It is unrelentingly, breathlessly fast, and at times blurs together during its relatively short 35 minute running time. This is not to say that songs don’t stand out in their own right, simply that they pretty much all follow the same bludgeoning tack. The title track riffs like a demon, with lead interjections coming across like viciously tangled cackles of distortion. The energy of the hoarse bellows, “Terroreign, terroreign, reign of terror!” is something to behold.

This music is so damn horrible that no matter how quiet you have your speakers you still feel like you’re disturbing the neighbours. The obvious downside should be apparent by now; it’s not exactly varied. But it’s hideous enough a racket to stop you from tuning it out no matter how long you hear it for- like a babies scream. Anyway, what kind of experimentation do you put onto a record like this? It’s a blistering maelstrom of extreme metal, and it does a great job.
