Ah, Florida, its sun, its beaches, Cap Canaveral and its death metal scene! This state seems to be producing a new death metal band every other day and one of the latest is Lowbrow.

Featuring ex-Six Feet Under Allen West (now also in Obituary) as well as ex-members of Acheron and Nasty Savage this new band knows how to deliver effective music. Their style is very heavy and only a few short solos will let the listener escape from the lowest part of their guitars' neck. This goes very well with the lyrics, they are mostly about the darkest murderous impulse the human is capable of. The title song "Victims At Play" being about the tragic events that occured in some american schools where kids shot their comrades. The vocalist is growling in a very enjoyable way and the lyrics are almost intelligible most of the time. It should be clear by now that this album isn't for the easily depressed as it won't renew your faith in the natural goodness of the human kind.

The musicians' performance is good but I would have liked more diversity in the compositions since it gets a little boring after a while. Recorded at the Morrisound studios, "Victims At Play" has a good sound that goes very well with the bleak theme of the music. I am also getting tired of these "hidden tracks" at the end of records. Here after 15 minutes of silence we get one of those totally anoying "surprises". Come on, now everybody knows the trick!!

A nice album, that I would recommend to those addicted to the dark side.
