You piece of shit! I'm not a rapper! Hahaha. Anyway, I just don't see what the big deal is with that clip, they focused on his one-footed bass work and that wasn't even much impressive.

With that said, the best video ever is "Cradle Of Love" by Billy Idol.

My point was that the clip didn't show much of anything. The guy is likely far better than me, I am not a full-time drummer, but there isn't anything special or amazing about that clip.

That guy's pretty good, actually.

...But I like Portnoy better. http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/mikeportnoysolo.html

The bassist wasn't half bad either!

If you think Tony Royster Jr. is better than Dennis Chambers, you're an idiot.

was just browsing that drummerworld place, it's cool. I found this:

bozzio playing with the fantomas

I suppose it's just tour support but holy shit. BUZZO, Patton AND Bozzio?

You're asking me to judge a drummer on the clip you provided, which I did. There was nothing to it. I'll watch this new one in a minute, but that in that first clip, Royster's clip is better.

EDIT: Now that clip was badass.

I hate to sound exactly like Husker... but if you think Mike Portnoy is a better drummer then anyone else mentioned in this thread... then you are simply incorrect.

Mike Portnoy is gum on the shoe of the other drummers mentioned in this thread.

One of the best drummers ever: Rick Allen

Laugh all you want, if it were easy he'd still not be the only one-armed drummer in the world. Technically he's nothing special, but that's still quite an amazing thing he's done. And no, it's not electronic drums.

I agree. I saw Leppard live in 92 and he did a 15 minute drum solo with a normal drum kit. And it sounded better with one arm than Lar$ does with two. It was an electronic kit on Hysteria though. That's Leppard's little secret.

Actually, that's beside the point.

Mike Portnoy is simply not as good as these drummers.

He has speed, but not nearly enough groove. Groove is more important than speed in that league of drumming.

I watched the drum solo; it was disdainful. Half the time he was pirating cymbal technique from Al Foster and the other half he was either pausing for a split-second (because he has no GROOVE) or just throwing around pedestrian fills while everyone clapped like he was the second coming of Max Roach or some shit.

He's very good compared to a lot of metal/rock drummers... but to call him better than Dennis Chambers? Insult, insult, insult.

It was an electronic kit only because no drum kit with that many pedals existed at the time. He still hit the triggers like there was a pedal connected to it. That's what people don't understand, they think it was all preprogrammed, and it wasn't. Today he has a specially made kit that has actual pedals.
