my club:
Sport Lisboa e Benfica (Benfica or SLB):

Founded in 1904 at a pharmacy in Lisbon.

the old "stadium of light" (as it's in lisbon's Estrada da Luz - luz = light):

127.000 people watch as Portugal defeats Brazil for the world u-21 cup (Roberto Carlos, Rui Costa and Figo are among the players that day):

After it's expansion in 1985, holding 120.000 people, it was the biggest in Europe. it was later reduced (adding chairs and a hole around the field) to 80.000.

the new one, founded in 2003, with capacity for 65.000:

the statue of Eusébio, arguably Benfica's best player ever:

Top scorer in World Cup 66 (England won), it took Salazar's influence to stop his transfer to Juventus or Inter Milan.

I'll smash your town up good....oh wait, wrong side of the border.

You can all see Metalhead as a pissed up (ie two shandies) window-smashing, burning dustbin-throwing thug, right?

Having played both I can say both games are great, in their own regard.
My soccer (football for the rest of the world) days were pretty competitive and netted me two knee surgeries on the blown right ACL. Not fun.
Playing touch football with 30+ folks on the weekends now and enjoying it tremendously.

Favorite European football team - Dynamo Kuiv from Ukraine all the way.

We should start a REAL Football thread!!

I do like soccer, but America is too set in its ways, so soccer will never take here (see the MLS).

MLS What a joke. Or the WUSA? I've thought of starting an American Football thread, but I don't think there's enough fans to warrant it. I think you, me, and Ken are the only ones who follow the sport. Plus my teams the Texans, and I'd rather not talk about that. Fuck Dom Capers in his stupid head.

Well, at least Dom Capers is gone now, and you're getting Reggie Bush, so its not all bad.

Besides, I'm an Eagles fan at heart, its been a rough year for me too. I like the Colts also (probably because I live in Indianapolis more than anything else), so thankfully, I've got something to watch for.

Are you from Texas? If so, you should be talking up the 'horns after that Rose Bowl performance.

Both sports are great, in their own right. From the one who actually got to play both of them.
I do not recall, but was it Porto or Benfica, my Dynamo Kuiv bounced out on their way to 1985 European Cup?

Yep, I'm a Texan born and bred. Man that Rose Bowl was a beautiful game. I was soooo sick of USC and all of the media homers saying The Horns didn't stand a chance. I'm glad Vince took that to heart. The look on the ESPN's analysts face after it was over was priceless. Plus, one of the best games in history. So much excitement.

As for Reggie Bush, you could put Lemmy himself behind that shoddy line and it wouldn't do any good. I want them to trade the pick and stock up on some players.
