A decent album, but a huge miss by Maiden standards.

Miss. This is the only shitty Maiden album (the rest were at least average). Everything is far too fucking repetitive,

Hit.

Too repetitive indeed and with some suspect production, but you can't argue with Futureal, Clansman, Como Estais Amigos or when Two Worlds Collide.

I also like Lightning Strikes Twice and have only minor problems with Don't Look To The Eyes of a Stranger and Educated Fool.

The only outright loser is The Angel & The Gambler.

I'd say miss. Yes, it has some good numbers, but the number of times the chorus is repeated in The Angel and the gambler. Gosh ! By the time the track is over, your already bored by it. Lightning strikes twice starts off well, but has a weak & funny chorus. Eyes of the stranger is good, but nothing great. Futureal is a real good track and Como Estais Amigos is also one of the stand out tracks of the album. Overall, the album has two very good songs and the others range from average to just good.

Surfin around, ran into this new review of the album, thought I'd post it since it seems to be of a different opinion of most others.

I suppose you guys already know what i'm gonna say about this album.....its a hit.

Contains classic Maiden hits such as Futureal and The Clansman, top notch kickers such as Two Worlds Collide, Lightning Strikes Twice & Como Estias Amigos, and good tracks such as The Educated Fool, Angel and The Gambler and Dont Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger.
I must admit that the repeditiveness on Angel.... and Dont Look To...can be annoying...but its Maiden. If you listen to it as much as i have, you get used to it.
I'm not saying its their best album, far from it, but it does beat 5-6 other Maiden albums including FOTD, BNW & NPFTD.
Blaze's vocals siut this album perfectly (as he also does on X-Factor). His deeper and emotional voice really makes these songs stand out, so much so that i dont want to even imagine how Bruce would go singing these tracks. He does a nice effort of The Clansman from RIR, but its Blaze's song all the way.

Again, I say, Brave New World and Fear of the Dark kick the ever-loving shit out of this one. You may have an argument with No Prayer for the Dying, though. I still wouldn't agree, but its not as much of a reach. No Prayer for the Dying was the weakest Bruce album. However, Bruce albums at their worst are still better than Blaze albums at their best. But, that's just the way I see it. More power to you if you like it, after all....It's still Iron FUCKING Maiden!

I'd put FOTD as Maiden's worst album with Bruce. Too many fillers in that album and to few killer tracks. The album sounds tired and uninspiring, we heard glipses of it from NPFTD. Shortened songs, not as much creativity, a hurried feel to it. I'm actually glad that Bruce left after that album and Blaze took over. Maiden NEEDED that to happen, cause if it didnt happen, i doubt Maiden would be around today.

Clearly angel and the gambler is one of the worst maiden songs ever. its bloody horrible. And BNW clearly blows it out of the water by a long shot.

Angel and the Gambler could be one of those classic Maiden songs, only if they shortened it or took out that break part in the middle where we hear the repeat of that same line.

BNW is poor IMO, as its the Maiden lineup of our dreams yet they dont pull it off. 3 Guitarists, yet it never sounds like it....i put it down to production failure. Like another poster said, the tracks on BNW are all over the place, a bit of prog here, some classic Maiden there, a mix of both, or something else.
In the end there are really only 3 killer songs, The Wickerman, The Fallen Angel and Out Of The Silent Planet. The others would be heaps better if they didnt make them so "experiemental", like Dream Of Mirrors & Blood Brothers.

Come on, Brave new world is a killer track, especially live at rock in Rio. The drums on that version especially are awesome
