This has little to do with the fact she a woman, more with the unnecessary and quite ridiculous display of nudity in order to, as always, fucking SELL. We have to deal with this kind of crap every single day (ads, pop/hip-hop/electronic music, movies, TV, etc.) and I loathe to see it invade genres/things I actually enjoy.
If that makes me a 'fucking retard', no problem, I gladly take the compliment.

That sort of thing has always been around, dude. Showing cleavage is no different than covering yourself in corpsepaint and cow blood. It serves the same purpose. |

It's fucking retro heavy metal, bro. I totally agree with you; I really think that it's a stupid gimmick. I don't think that Lady Gaga relies on nudity as much as she does on spectacle and ridiculous costumes. The thing about objectification in heavy metal is that it has always been around and has been used in such a manner to use women in exchange. Album covers such as this:
I don't think it is right, but I appreciate the exhibition of some semblance of autonomy in the woman using her body to sell albums rather than her body being used. And ultimately it is probably her record execs pushing it so maybe the facade is worthless. I prefer the Laura Pleasants/Grace Perry/Therese Lanz manner of being hot in metal, that is, not sexually objectified but sexually attractive because they are so fucking metal, but power metal is a totally different genre than the sludge/deathgrind/noiserock-sludge realm that the aforementioned operate in. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And you're both right. There is nothing wrong about Huntress, not even their singer (well, her boobs are definitely wrong, but that's an other matter ), I'm merely pissed about seeing nudity/sexuality/violence everywhere I go and in everything I do. I'm not exaggerating one bit. I don't know about the U.S., but over here there are (100%) naked chicks to sell yogurt on TV. Fucking yogurt. And bottled water, perfume, shampoo, soap, stuff for men... and not only on TV, you find the same crap in the streets also. And those are just examples. The pervasiveness is extremely annoying.
As a consequence, every time I see someone trying to sell me stuff by using this kind of technique, my first reaction is to completely reject it. Hence my Lady Gaga comment, I suppose.
Anyhow, thanks to OP for creating this thread, I didn't know about Huntress. Some nice riffs! |
