not the best thing Sep ever did, but damn is it good.

I don't know if I'd call this a classic though... Just my opinion. Still, the cover of Orgasmatron is pure win.

Mine too but it may just be influential enough to count I guess.

I disagree. It is just as good as BTR, the writing / riffs are actually a bit more developed.

BTR is in a league all it's own. Arise is good, but BTR in untouchable and possibly why I don't like this as much. This still is one killer album, and gets tons of playtime by me. It's just not a true classic IMO.

I can't make up my as to which album is better, but I heard Arise first. Damn do the title track openers of both albums ever destroy! I'm no thrash expert/enthusiast, but I love both of these albums.

That's cool.
I dunno... they are both about equal as far as quality to me; both kick mondo ass.

it's kinda weird when we disagree on something, especially when that something is Sepultura.

Wow, guess I'm surprised there are people questioning the "classic" status on this one. With some of the other albums that have been reviewed as classics, I would think this would definitely qualify. Killer riffs on this album, especially the title track.

Well, the so-called disagreement is very minor, if one at all.
To me, Arise is as good as BTR; you like BTR a bit more.
Seems like we are still in agreement that both albums are seriously brain melting riff injections.

Too bad about the vocals, they always put me off early Sepultura. Not that the new vocalist is any better, of course.

There's no way I will let that bullshit go unspoken to.
Sometimes I wonder about some of the kiddies here.

As for Sep, yeah, this is their last great album before one of the biggest nosedives ever.
Still, Schizophrenia is probably my all time favorite Sepultura album.

Great choice for a classic. I think it's fair to say that "Beneath The Remains", "Arise" and "Chaos A.D." is the Brazilian Trilogy version of Slayer's "Reign in Blood", "South of Heaven" and "Seasons In The Abyss".

I'd go back chronolologically before adding Chaos into that triptych.

Yeah, fuck Chaos AD. It's nothing compared to Schizo, Beneath and Arise. And well, I summed my opinion up in the review, but Arise is most def. a classic.

Eh. The Meads Of Asphodel covered it near perfectly. I should probably give C.A.D another listen soon, but last I checked, Roots beat it easily in terms of songwriting and forward-thinking groove metal.
