You're right, sadly it has happened before...I'm glad someone else is looking out for it too.

But go ahead and like them, I'm not saying you shouldnt. But using album reviews from the media, who of all sources you should trust least...is a very bad idea. I'll admit it, I used to like Freedom Call, but then I heard the song "Living in a Fairyland"...its quite possibly the gayest song ever written, they are the back street boys of metal...and its upsetting.

Also....I dont know if this is what WiC was going for, but Running Wild, Rage, and Grave Digger, are better than Edguy, for the sole reason that they were there in the beginning, they arent riding the wave of Euro metal simply because they started the fucking wave. how could a(n) impos(er)ter be better?

So i'm not telling you that you're wrong....which I think you are, but thats not the point. I just think you need to cite better evidence than personal opinion....and album reviews.

Zeppelin is the greatest band ever...and all of their albums got ripped apart by music columnists. So you're point is moot.

Well yeah they are older they were some of the pioneers of Speed/Power Metal and they have a much more original and unique sound. But I also think even without those things they sound better than band like Edguy.

Terror, terror, terror.....you didnt understand what i meant.

When i wrote about the reviews, i was merely backing up about how good these bands are. Not to say because the reviews say their good we automatically think they are.
So from what you said, we cant enjoy bands that didnt start the wave because they are all copycats?

Why cant people just say: you like bands such as Freedom Call & Edguy, while another likes Grave Digger & Rage. Each to their own and move on. I see people here getting angry because someone likes a band which the other person thinks is gay or "happy metal". For fuck's sake GET OVER IT!

If Edguy has brought nothing to the metal scene, then i guess Mr. Sammet bringing in all those guest singers and guitarists from awesome bands for Avantasia, was a waste of time?
Back in the day, bands from the start like Rage or Running Wild may have started something new and were the leaders, now bands like Edguy & Dragonforce are the benchmark in their genres for what they've done, what they've accomplished.

Overall, i dont care if a band is riding a wave made by someone else, if they sound good...then i'll like them, regardless of whether they are "happy metal" or whatever. Most bands around atm all sound similar to something.

What other evidence do i need to like a band, other than my person opinion towards them? Do i have to like a band for anything else? Do i need your permission, Terror, to like certain band? lol

I am proud so say that FREEDOM CALL ROCK! Regardless of what they sing about. Same with Edguy and any other bands that you have a problem with.....yes Terror, it is shallow for you to once like a band and then hate them just because of an insignificant song title......

I said it was fine for you to like them....I think you're wrong and I think that Avantasia was a horrible waste of time. But you're a fan of new power metal. so this type of music suits you just fine. I however am of the heavier persuasion....so whipy happy shit doesnt appeal to me. And the only reason I like bands like Running WIld or Nocturnal RItes.....old nocturnal Rites...is because they remind me of bands from the 80's. Edguy and Freedom Call have a very modern sound.....and I think they go way over board....so its a matter of taste....heavy versus happy. I chose heavy, you chose happy. Problem resolved.

Thats your opinion if you think Avantasia was a waste of time, but you'd be in the vast minority of people that think that.
I happen to like many different genres of metal, whether it be power, goth, thrash, heavy or death.
I also like Grave Digger, one of the bands being talked about. But i'd rank them behind bands such as Edguy & Freedom Call just from my personal preferences.
There is no right or wrong, just personal taste.
I also have old Nocturnal Rites and they also have a "happy" element in their sound.
People who restrict themselves to just one sector of metal are missing out on so much more. Expand your tastes, dont just stick to older bands or new bands playing 80's metal with no "happy" elements, as that genre is wearing very thin

i like both, but i think i prefer the happy probably on a 60% to 40% level.
Currently love the new powerquest, and tho i like the new symphorce album. I just prefer the happy/upbeat melodies amd choruses to the more american heavier sound
Of course I buy both..since I buy about all power-metal

You're right, there are some happy elements to Nocturnal Rites....but they are very small...and are more prevalent on The Sacred Talisman. In a Time of Blood and Fire has no happy parts in it, and only two songs are kind of happy on Tales of Mystery...those being Ring of Steel...which isnt necesarilly happy, just very melodic, and Change the World...which sounds like a 70's rock song. I think you're confusing happy with less heavy....thats how I'd describe them.....even though I just agreed above that they were kind of happy, I did this in the interest of you understanding me. But most of the songs are darker and are about demons and pentagrams.....Edguy and Freedom Call don't write stuff like that......and neither does modern day Nocturnal Rites....thus my distaste for them stems from this. But you and I have no problem......just different tatstes.

I'll agree that we have different tastes, but similar tastes in other genres and bands.

For me, song writing is the least important thing when liking a band. I really dont care what they write about, unless its TOTALLY wrong for metal. So for you it may be that song by Freedom Call you mentioned a few posts ago. For me, that song wouldnt bother me, as long as it sounds good.

Songwriting is huge for me....the art has sadly been lost.

I think "song writing" means music and vocal structure of the songs, not the lyrics.

It doesn't bother me when the music sounds happy, but I can't stand when a vocalist giggles like an asian schoolgirl.

Ok, lyrics then, is something which is not important to me....blah, blah, blah
When you say song structure and vocal, well then yeah, thats a bit more important. It all goes towards how to song sounds to me. Whether little things in the song shits me and i can like it cause of that or how a small tempo change can ruina song even though it has a kickass chorus, etc.

Definitely Rage. I consider them underrated legends. Then Running Wild, then Grave Digger. Just like the poll indicates so far
I also think Rage are slightly better than Gamma Ray, and equal to Helloween. As far as I'm concerned, in Germany, they only lose to Blind Guardian. To whoever was interested in their older albums, I'd recommand Trapped!
