Can't understand why no one has mentioned this yet. Riot's Thundersteel lineup reunited and a new album released. The album is not quite Thundersteel, but it's certainly the best thing they've done since Thundersteel easily better in quality than Privilege of Power.

Fans of the band should really check this out. It's about as well done as you can expect from Reale and company. Tony Moore's vocals were the missing element from Riot as he hasn't missed a beat. Great stuff.

Check out the sequel to Johnny's Back.

Good album.
The second track is the best Iron Maiden soundalike I've heard in 2011.

Good point.

I haven't heard the new album yet, but it has to be great; i mean, this band is very consistent, they never released a bad album or an average one, imo(and i've heard almost their entire discography).

Agreed.

I'm loving the album more with each listen. Top 5 of 2011 4 sure. Fo sho my niggas.

Tony Moore was born to sing metal. He's awesome, even after so many years.

Really? Listen to the song "Warrior" and then try saying that again. That was 1977.

Warrior sounds like Deep Purple (with a little twin guitars added - probably an influence from JP, Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy), I'll concede you that).
FYI, I discovered Riot back in 1980, David, I know all their albums.

I dont hear the Deep Purple, and I certainly dont hear Maiden worship in what Riot does.

Warrior sounds more like JP's Exciter. And Still your Man certainly sounds a bit maidenesque. My favorite song of the new album so far is Wings are for Angels.

Now, you two grumpy old men, what's the story behind Riot's pet? You know, that white, hairy scary thing in the cover of the first albums?

I think it's a baby seal's head on a man's body and it's pretty ugly AND silly.
I don't know what went through their heads when they chose it but I'm glad they got rid of it.

I think Riot's music sounded like Riot. They are the American Judas Priest, having had a similar career musically. They were one of the first bands to write speed metal along with the Scorpions, Accept, and Priest. The music on "I'm Still Your Man" may sound like what Iron Maiden does, but the fact is that Riot has been writing music that sounds like that since before Iron Maiden ever recorded an album. Thus, Riot's music cannot be considered Maiden-esque, on the contrary, Maiden's music could probably be described as Riot-esque since of the two bands, Riot was the first to sound like that. Long statement for such a silly point, but I feel Riot deserves the respect.

They sure do but the fact remains they played hard rock (and were very good at it).
They only started playing metal in 1988 with Thundersteel.

And because we both love Riot, I'll give you my favorite song of theirs:

I'm sure Vince Neil did take a lot from Guy Speranza's vocal style.

I don't totally agree about that; Warrior,Narita,Swords and Tequila,Altar of the King,Loanshark or Fire Down Under are more heavy metal than hard rock.
