I disagree... I liked they're S/T or Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal & Aegis better... I do like Velvet Darkness They Fear though... As for their change in style... I didn't like it... Sounded like a bastard american version of J-pop... I've read somewhere that they will be changing their style back to their roots, which I'm excited about! Even though Liv Kristine is gone now...

I enjoyed Velvet Darkness They Fear. As far as I'm concerned, after Aegis, Theatre of Tragedy's music went way downhill. I was very, very disappointed with Musique and Assembly. They weren't bad albums, but they weren't what I'd come to expect from Theatre of Tragedy and it sort of bothered me that they seem to have left that slow, atmospheric gothic-metal feel behind and crossed over into the realm of something that's almost... a bit poppy/techno-y. What happened to the growls dammit?

I was only recently introduced to Theater of Tragedy though the name did/does seem to ring a bell, I really like their sound, many times I need a second or third listening to an album or a song in order to start warming up to it but they got me right away.

I disagree. Musique was a dreadful cd IMO, i think they didn't know so much about the genre they were stepping into. Assembly however was a totally different story, which is a shame because the new samples sound like they are taking a step towards their older style.
Oh well, i love it too

I agree. Their other albums (excluding musique) are all excellent for different reasons but Velvet Darkness They Fear is total classic material.

I read somwhere that this album is the first one on which anyone used Beauty and the Beast combination of vocals. Is it true?

Velvet Darkness They Fear is considered by many as the "definitive" Theatre of Tragedy album and they were one of the first to use the Beauty and the Beast style but Velvet... is by no means the first album employing the style; take their self titled for example (it was released prior to Velvet..).

Definetly a classic. I heard it before I got into Metal and still pick it up sometimes for a spin. Beautiful, yet dark and mysterious.

Velvet Darkness is good, doesn't come close to any of MDB's best albums though. Aegis was pretty medicore, and they have gotten worse since.
