And the new vocalist is...

Ok, for those lazy enough not to wait for the link, the chosen one is Stu Block from Into Eternity. I'd call that a pretty serious left-fielder, didn't expect such a pick.

But even though I'm among the most big time Barlow-fanboys you can find, I'm considerably optimistic about this. Block has shown serious range with Into Eternity from wails to growls and solid clean vox as well. Worked live too when I actually saw both IE's at the same show in late 2008.

Despite the obvious disappointment of losing Barlow, I'm surprisingly interested to hear this.

That is a very odd pick. However, Stu is a unique vocalist and I think he could potentially fit well with Iced Earth's sound. Maybe he fits in well with bands whose acronyms are IE.

Hmm dunno how I feel about this. Heard some Into Eternity a few years ago and was massively unimpressed.. Maybe he will be a better vocalist with the sound of Iced Earth.. Very interested in hearing the result.

Not sure how I feel about this. I am glad Schafer went and found someone capable of a lower register, which IMO is what Owen's lacked in his stint with Iced Earth, but this is definitely left field. I have all of Into Eternity's albums, which I consider to be pretty good, but the vocalist never really stood out to me. Guess Ill have to give them some more spin's now.

As to the next Iced Earth album, that burden still rests soley on Schafer. It's up to him to write the kick ass album he promised to deliver, so in that regard I am still looking foward to it.

As to Into Eternity, I have no idea but I guess it has been a bit since their last album. Wikipedia time!

Wow, I have no idea how that will mesh. I'm sure he'll do fine on new material (and likely NOTS stuff too) but will he be able to handle the mid tempo songs from the Barlow era?

It's gonna be interesting.

Do you guys know if Stu will still be performing with Into Eternity ?
I'd hope so, he's got this awesome voice and is a huge part of that band.

1. He's not an American!
2. Iced Earth with growls?
3. HE'S NOT AN AMERICAN!

Expecting that 2 will turn out fine, rather worried about the effect of 1 and 3...

Does it really matter from which country he comes from ?
I seriously doubt it'll be a factor.

Exactly. If you're not born free, how can you die free?

I won't pass judgment until I hear the new IE album.

Hmmm just noticed this but Iced Earth has the same initials as Into Eternity coincidence

Wow, that is quite interesting. Stu is an awesome. I've seen them live and he's great on record and live. It will be interesting to see what IE's next album sounds like. I do hope Into Eternity keeps going strong though.

Weird. Saw both of those bands on tour together a while back, so I'm not too surprised by the choice, but still.

This may or may not be true. It's up to el Goatmeister Generale to decide.
