COTB: I have no issue with the NASCAR, UFC, or their fans. My issue is with Halford's weak album and silly juvenile lyrics. He has a song on the album in which he sings, 'He's the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world'. It sounds taylor made to be used by an outfit like the UFC. 'Made of Metal' = same thing aimed at NASCAR. I find it boring, cheap, and juvenile.

I'm not sure how you made some connection that I was implying that either sport had it's basis in 'Bedrock'. I really don't care about either sport. Pay attention and keep up. I hope you now understand the point I was making and you'll realize that your 'plastic snobbery' comment was 100% off base.

Like I said, nothing wrong with a little brainless entertainment.
As for the "plastic snobbery" comment, well, you hear it all the time in regards to NASCAR and how it is the leisure activity of choice amongst inbred hicks and whatnot (oooh, edgy); I used the term plastic to connote artificial, placebo snobbery thrown around because it is safe and easy to get away with. Perhaps I mistook the intent behind your words.
I hope that you can see my point; some of the most juvenile meatheads I've ever encountered are football fans, so I am not sure what the problem is if he is writing stuff "laden with juvenile lyrics and I can't help but think that Rob is now writing music to be adopted as Nascar and UFC themes". You are implying that NASCAR and The UFC are juvenile, you are obviously a big NFL fan, I stated the irony in all this, am I missing something?

But whatever, I could care less at his point.
This thread has become a bore and not worth any more time.

At any rate, who the fuck listens to Halford, or any metal for that matter, for the lyrics?

Hey I think Halford came up with a new niche in metal:

Sports Metal

1) I explicitly referred to metal, not whatever the Disney Channel set is currently swooning over.

2) You misspelled vagina.

Sorry, a cheap shot, but I just couldn't let it slip by.

I disagree... Rush 2112 is Canada's finest hour by far. But Exciter is really good.
About Halford, if the music is good, fuck the lyrics.

Yeah, Moving Pictures is Rush's best, by far.

Go ask Neil and Geddy which one they think is better. Neil doesn't really like any of it after the fact, famously saying everything prior to Permanent Waves should actually o out of print, but this one he still likes as a fan of the band himself.

You guys haven't heard every single rush song equally as much as the next, i'm betting. I got nearly every Rush album at once around early 2001, so I don't really have the timing issue that a lot of people do, nor have I glossed over any part of the catalogue whatsoever.

Moving Pictures is in my top ten albums of all time I think, but every single song on Power Windows is a Masterpiece and no other album in the world has ever achieved that for me.

I'm just saying among Rush's hardcore fanbase it is not a foregone conclusion. The debate usually ends up being whether or not Power Windows or Moving Pictures is actually the best.

Next time we get together, I'll do that; seeing them (Neil and Geddy, Alex is busy that night) next weekend, in fact, supposed to go bowling, but with those crazy madcaps, who knows where the night will lead?

Seriously, am I supposed to be swayed by their own personal favorites?
Most of their post 80s output is pretty forgettable, IMO.
Moving Pictures is where they peaked.
IMO.

IMO, 2112 is their top. Moving pictures is second. The five records between 1975-1981 (not including the ive ones) are the peek of an incredible career. IMO.

In that case, Martin Popoff can help since he basically did just that, which is my source for the info. Alex bitches about the 80's albums because they didn't feature his rhythm guitar playing ability as much as he liked and they don't play this stuff because Geddy can't play the keyboard parts, or couldn't at the time, even if he had 2 sets of arms. Peter Collins, Rupert Hine or whoever was producing and various others, like Ben Mink, had to play the keys on those 80's albums for the most part. So it isn't a lack of wanting to play them, but those songs never came across well live in any capacity.

But no, i wasn't saying you should be swayed, i'm saying I really hate the way people buy into the popular misconceptions that always float around out there. Opinions are one thing, ignorance is another. Not accusing you of those things, but in general that is the case. Those 4 million people that bought MP, 2 million probably have little to no clue what else the band has done. The band has exactly four songs that suck in 40 years and it gets tiring seeing the same album mentioned like the rest of the catalogue was building up to it or riding the high from it.

So forgive my irritation

Yes, I think you found something in my words that was not intended at all. As for lyrics, I do pay attention to them and I rather enjoy thoughtful intelligent lyrics.

Huge tangent in this thread. Back to topic - lyrics aside, no songs kick ass? No riffs rock? C'mon, gotta be something. Everything the guy's put out has had some redeeming qualities - you telling me this is just a piece of crap through and through?

Made of Metal sounds pretty good (more like some of the Fight stuff). I don't really like The Mower all that much.

What I really want is a new Priest album.
