This is the last Ulver album I listen to and enjoy at any regular interval, definitely a classic. For some reason I imagined that more of you would hate it than you do...maybe I'm just too used to never agreeing with the black metal crew here.

I also consider this a classic. Your second sentence intrigued me. I guess I'm not an official member of the "black metal crew" but I have more in common with them than any other group here. I find myself agreeing with you quite often.

I love the BM Crew... but it's getting smaller everyday... :?

NP
Coheed and Cambria "IV" (awesome album !!!)

To think that once there was even a thread that these forums are getting too BM oriented... Those were the times.

Those were good times but I don't think that most of us were exclusively into black metal, it was just that you cannot find many people even in the internet to talk to about it because it is very underground. Now we are all expressing our different tastes and I like the way things are right now, but those were fun times indeed.

Ok, so i finally got this......
And all i can say is WOW

Its incerdibly good! I didnt think bm could be as uplifting as this album is. And so melodic. Some of the riffs sound like the kinid of stuff melodeath and metalcore bands wish they could write. (see song 6 if you dont follow me)

Don't tell me those two are better than this one
I guess their new stuff as nothing to do with Metal, it's Electro/Avant-Garde music, so not really my thing at all.

Kveldssanger is an acoustic folk album, and Bergtatt is kind of a mix of both. Soft, atmospheric foresty black metal, with long songs, acoustics, absolute beauty. The albums are kind of a trio. All amazing though.

If you don't have this album, you don't know Black Metal.

I posted the story about them spending all their money on cocaine and Armani suits, then read the review and hastily deleted it

It is mad shit. One of metal's most extreme albums says I, in that there has been much heavier/bleaker stuff released but nothing that is quite as wild and untamed

Got this a few weeks back. Very raw but quite melodic. The right audio channel seems to flicker on and off sometimes, but that may just be my headphones.

I can't even listen to this album with headphones. It'd tear my eardrums to shreds.

This is a strictly stereo album.

I don't even own a stereo! All I have is a personal player. I don't think the album is as raw as say, Wrath Of The Tyrant era Emperor though.

Good God, that album must induce E. Coli if it's that raw.

It's a different sort of raw though. It's not abrasive like Nattens Madrigal, it sounds like it was recorded 2 miles below the Atlantic Ocean, with thick woollen socks over the mics.

It was recorded in Ihsahn's grim living room.
